This paper investigates the buck-boost dc-dc converter and the energy transmission techniques in this kind of converter. In this paper, the critical inductance between the continuous conduction and discontinuous conduction modes are determined. In addition, the critical inductance equation between the complete inductor supply mode and incomplete inductor supply mode are calculated. The energy transmission technique and the output voltage ripple (OVR) of a buck-boost converter are analyzed in a specific range of the load and input voltage. The relations between the maximum OVR (MOVR) and the converter component parameters are deduced, and the minimum inductance value is calculated to ensure the MOVR minimization. Experimental and simulation results are used to prove the validity of the presented theoretical subjects.
