Rationale and design of the Lead Evaluation for Defibrillation and Reliability study: Safety and efficacy of a novel ICD lead design

George H. Crossley, Prashanthan Sanders, Paolo De Filippo, Khaldoun G. Tarakji, Bert Hansky, Maully Shah, Pamela Mason, Baerbel Maus, Keith Holloman

Summary: The LEADR Clinical Study aims to assess the long-term reliability of a novel defibrillator lead design using Bayesian methods and virtual patient data. The study will enroll 500 to 900 patients for 18 months to 3 years of follow-up, with multiple clinical assessments at different time points.

Rationale for and use of the lumenless 3830 pacing lead

Travis D. Richardson, Adam Himes, Mark Marshall, George H. Crossley

Summary: Most currently available pacing and defibrillation leads use a stylet-based design. This design offers advantages in terms of implantation but increases lead diameter and the risk of conductor failure. The authors conducted a systematic literature search and shared their 20-year experience with this lead design. They reviewed the global experience with lumenless leads and discussed methods for placement and system modification. Lumenless leads have the potential to improve the durability of endocardial pacing and facilitate conduction system pacing.

Leadless versus transvenous single-chamber ventricular pacemakers: 3 year follow-up of the Micra CED study

George H. Crossley, Jonathan P. Piccini, Colleen Longacre, Lucas Higuera, Kurt Stromberg, Mikhael F. El-Chami

Summary: The Micra CED Study compared the outcomes of Micra pacemakers and transvenous VVI pacemakers using administrative claims data. It found that after 3 years of follow-up, patients with Micra had lower rates of complications, reinterventions, heart failure hospitalizations, and infections compared to patients with transvenous VVI.
