Is it possible to make it as an independent researcher, or will no one take me seriously?

It is possible, but it is better with institutional affiliation (University, research institute, NGO, foundation, etc.), which has many privileges such as regular salary, research support, networking, reduced fees for membership in organizations, library and journal subscriptions, and many more.
