Poster summary

The study is related to the development of a standardized preparation of Secoisolariciresinol Diglucoside (SDG) rich extract from Linum ussititasinum seeds. Further the formulation was evaluated for bioavailability and pharmacokinetic parameters. The bioavailability studies were carried out later the development of bioanalytical method using HPTLC technique. The method was validated as per ICH guidelines. The method was found to be accurate, sensitive, simple and rapid. Bioavailability studies in rats, involved determination of absolute bioavailablity of pure Secoisolariciresinol (SECO) which appears in blood after admininstration of SDG,followed by relative bioavailability of the standardized capsule formulation. The study has significance in reducing batch to batch variations of herbal crude drug and the bioaavailability is related to the efficacy with fate of the active compound in body. The absolute bioavailability ofSECOis found to be 17 % while the relative bioavailability of the formulation is observed to 98%.
