Aims and Scope

Applied and Environmental Microbiology (AEM) publishes papers that make significant contributions to (a) applied microbiology, including biotechnology, protein engineering, bioremediation, and food microbiology, (b) microbial ecology, including environmental, organismic, and genomic microbiology, and (c) interdisciplinary microbiology, including invertebrate microbiology, plant microbiology, aquatic microbiology, and geomicrobiology.

EM and AEM are the two dream journals for most environmental microbiologists, just like EST and WR for environmentalists. I am very happy to be accepted by AEM. The reviewers' comments are very strict and professional. I can feel that they are all experts in the field. However, in the current climate of skyrocketing impact factors, as a journal under the American Society for Microbiology, AEM's impact factor remains relatively stable. This may also be related to the American Society for Microbiology's public statement to boycott the abandonment of impact factors. The journal focuses only on the articles themselves, not on the impact factor, which can be considered as a breath of fresh air.

Posted on 2022.4.18, received the first review on 2022.6.10. The editor encouraged resubmission after rejection and the reviewer made major revisions.
Resubmitted on 2022.8.15, received the second review on 2022.9.18. The reviewer requested minor revisions again.
Returned on 2022.9.25.
Accepted on 2022.9.30. Overall, it is a good journal with professional reviewers. However, their language is sharp, which made me feel a bit angry.
