A rapid nondestructive method based on hyperspectral scattering technique for simultaneous determination of pork tenderness and Escherichia coli (E. coli) contamination was studied in the research. The hyperspectral scattering images of thirty-one pork samples were collected in 400-1100 nm, and the scattering profiles were then fitted by Lorentzian distribution function to give three parameters a (asymptotic value), b (peak value) and c (full width at b/2). The combined parameters of (b-a), (b-a)x c, (b-a)/c and a&b&c were used to develop multi-linear regression (MLR) models for prediction of pork tenderness and E. coli contamination. It was shown that MLR models developed using parameters a, b, (b-a) and (b-a)/c can give high correlation coefficients of 0.831, 0.860. 0.856 and 0.930 respectively for pork tenderness prediction. For E. coli contamination of pork, MLR models based on parameters a and a&b&c can give high R-cv of 0.877 and 0.841 respectively. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Occurrence, partitioning and transport of perfluoroalkyl acids in gas and particles from the southeast coastal and mountainous areas of China

Jiangyue Wu, Gang Fang, Xinhong Wang, Liping Jiao, Siquan Wang, Yongyu Li, Ying Wang

Summary: Gas and particle samples were collected from southeast coastal and mountainous cities in China to analyze the levels and characteristics of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAA). PFAA concentrations varied in the ranges of 7.8-290 pg/m³ in gas phase and 27-1200 pg/m³ in particulate phase, with perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) being the dominant compounds. The study found that PFAA distribution was influenced by particle size and the length of fluorinated carbon chain, with PFSAs preferring to distribute on coarse particles and long-chain PFAA tending to exist in particulate phase. The Winter Monsoon was identified as a potential driver for atmospheric transport of PFAS to southern cities.

Xinlong Zhao, Yankun Peng, Yongyu Li, Qinghui Guo, Bingwei Wang

Summary: This study explored the monitoring ability of a micro-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in orchards by using a force sensor and gyroscope to observe changes in force and posture of growing apples during spectral collection. The UAV carried a visible/near-infrared multispectral sensor to collect internal information of the apples. A prediction model for internal quality was established using destructive testing and pre-treatments, and apple maturity was evaluated using the Streif index. Results showed that detecting apples on trees using UAV did not affect their growth and provided valuable internal quality information. The prediction model had a correlation coefficient of 0.8593 and a root mean square error of 0.0102, indicating the potential of this study in detecting quality and maturity changes in growing apples and its usefulness in overall orchard perception.

Modulating the electronic structures derived by neighbouring hetero-diatomic FeCoN6-Gra for prominent electrocatalysis of arsenious acid

Yong -Yu Li, Zong-Yin Song, Zhi-Wei Gao, Xiang-Yu Xiao, Yong-Huan Zhao, Pei-Hua Li, Xing-Jiu Huang, Wen-Qing Liu

Summary: In the field of electrocatalytic reduction, single atom catalysts (SACs) have been extensively researched. However, the metal active sites are easily weakened or poisoned during complex multi-step proton-electron reactions. Therefore, it remains a great challenge to improve the adsorption-desorption capacity and enhance rapid surface reactions for superior electrocatalytic performance. In this study, the electron synergism of neighbouring Fe and Co diatoms on graphene (FeCoN6-Gra) was found to promote the electrocatalytic reduction of arsenious acid (As(III)), surpassing single-atomic catalysts containing only Fe or Co. The electron allocation mechanism associated with Co injection was observed to trigger two-site adsorption and efficiently regulate electron transport between surface sites and As(III). Furthermore, the dynamic migration of As(III) driven by Co during the reduction process was emphasized, playing a crucial role in breaking the As-O bond and achieving efficient catalysis of the diatomic model.

Extensive jejunal injury is repaired by migration and transdifferentiation of ileal enterocytes in zebrafish

Xiangyong Wei, Xinmiao Tan, Qi Chen, Yan Jiang, Guozhen Wu, Xue Ma, Jialong Fu, Yongyu Li, Kai Gang, Qifen Yang, Rui Ni, Jianbo He, Lingfei Luo

Summary: A major cause of intestinal failure is intestinal epithelium necrosis and loss of enterocytes, particularly in the jejunum. The mechanisms behind jejunal epithelial regeneration after extensive loss of enterocytes are unknown. In this study, zebrafish were used to induce extensive damage to jejunal enterocytes, mimicking the necrosis observed in intestinal failure. It was found that ileal enterocytes migrate and transdifferentiate into jejunal enterocytes to fulfill the regeneration process. The IL1b-NFkB axis and its agonist play a role in activating dedifferentiation and promoting regeneration. This research provides insights into the intersegmental migration mechanism of intestinal regeneration and potential therapeutic targets for intestinal failure caused by jejunal epithelium necrosis.
