Summary: This study aimed to develop and validate models for predicting 5-year risks of recurrence and bleeding in VTE patients without cancer. The models were derived from patient data and validated externally, showing good agreement between predicted and observed risks for up to 5 years.

Summary: This study is a large-scale, multicenter, prospective registry that aims to investigate the incidence and risk factors of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in adult Japanese patients with solid tumors. The analysis of stomach cancer patients revealed that female sex, age >= 65 years, VTE history, and D-dimer > 1.2 μg/mL were independent risk factors for VTE. Additionally, screening for D-dimer before starting cancer treatment is necessary, even for asymptomatic patients.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after adrenalectomy for adrenal cortical carcinoma (ACC). The results showed that the occurrence of postoperative VTE was highest in ACC patients, with age, presence of adrenal cancer, and Khorana score being identified as risk factors. ACC patients with increased age and/or Khorana score >= 2 should be considered for extended prophylaxis.

Summary: VTE, consisting of DVT and PE, is a major cause of cardiovascular disease. Current diagnosis and treatment guidance for VTE are limited, and there is a lack of understanding of the mechanisms and pathways responsible for the occurrence of observed alterations. The application of metabolomics profiling may play a significant role in early diagnosis and management, but more research is needed to fully understand VTE-related metabolic changes.

Summary: Ovarian cancer patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) have molecular differences compared to those without. VTE is associated with upregulated inflammatory and coagulation pathways, and correlated with the expression of platelet-derived growth factor subunit B (PDGFB) and extracellular proteins, namely collagens.

Summary: The impact of venous thromboembolism in Japanese colorectal cancer patients has been investigated in this study. The incidence of venous thromboembolism was low but was associated with increased mortality. Early treatment and effective screening methods may help reduce the risk of venous thromboembolism.

Summary: GARFIELD-VTE is an observational study that aims to collect clinical data of patients with deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism worldwide. The study found that the highest accumulation of events occurred within the first 12 months after diagnosis, which may help identify treatment gaps and improve patient outcomes.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence and risk factors of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in post-radical prostatectomy patients. It was found that the overall incidence of VTE in post-RP patients is 1%, and minimally invasive procedures and RP without pelvic lymph node dissection are associated with a lower risk of developing VTE. Additional pharmacological prophylaxis may not be necessary in all cases and should be considered in high-risk patients only.

Summary: Hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a concern for general medical patients, but determining the most appropriate venous thromboembolism risk assessment model is still uncertain. Providers tend to assess patients as moderate or high VTE risk, despite institutional guidelines recommending lower risk categories, leading to potentially unnecessary use of pharmacologic prophylaxis. Further research, such as a prospective study utilizing the Padua Prediction Score, is warranted to determine the best method for predicting VTE risk in general medicine patients.

Summary: This study aimed to define the impact of missed ordering of venous thromboembolism (VTE) chemoprophylaxis in high-risk general surgery populations. The results showed that missed ordering of VTE chemoprophylaxis in high-risk general surgery patients was associated with a 42% reduction in the odds of postoperative 30-day VTE.

Summary: This study investigates the long-term clinical outcomes of patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) in relation to age. The findings suggest that older patients have a lower risk of recurrent VTE compared to younger patients.

Summary: In this study, the PRISM score was developed as a new risk prediction model for venous thromboembolism prevention in outpatients with multiple myeloma. The abnormal metaphase cytogenetics was identified as a new disease-related risk factor, which contributes to the understanding and treatment of patients with multiple myeloma.

Summary: The study indicates that increasing platelet count in patients with VTE is associated with a higher risk of major bleeding. This association is observed not only with platelet count at VTE diagnosis, but also with platelet count measured on average 7 years before the thrombotic event.
