Summary: The spontaneous clearance rate of HR-HPV infection in women with normal or low-grade lesions is 51.5% with a median time to clearance of 14.5 months. Age and initial viral load are independent risk factors affecting the spontaneous clearance of HR-HPV infection in the female genital tract. Intensive screening is recommended for non-young women or those with high viral loads.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study in Italy assessed the effectiveness of an HPV vaccination programme in reducing the risk of cervical abnormalities detected during subsequent screenings. Results showed that women who received at least one dose of the HPV vaccine were significantly less likely to have abnormal cervical cytology. Overall, catch-up HPV vaccination almost halved the risk of cytological abnormalities in organized cervical screening programmes.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of anti-HPV preventive vaccination on patients with low-grade cervical lesions. The results showed that the rate of persistence and progression of CIN was higher in the unvaccinated group compared to the vaccinated group. The study also found that vaccination, age, and HPV genotypes were associated with the development of CIN2+.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical association between low HPV DNA viral load (VL) and cervical cytology/histologic diagnosis. The results showed that when the HPV DNA VL was low (1+), the cytology was most likely negative for malignancy.

Summary: The American Cancer Society (ACS) believes that the time has come for primary human papillomavirus (HPV) screening in the United States, but it requires educating the public and healthcare providers and overcoming logistical barriers. ACS is taking the lead by utilizing its resources to promote primary HPV screening in the US and sharing best practices from other countries through its Primary HPV Screening Initiative.

Summary: This study found that single HR-HPV infection predominated throughout the female genital tract, but the viral load was lower compared to multiple HR-HPV infections. Despite the decreasing viral load from the cervix to the perineum, the clinical performance for detecting >= CIN2 of the perineum sample was comparable to that of the cervix.

Summary: This study provides updated incidence rates of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) among women living with HIV (WHIV), and examines disease outcomes and HPV status among women treated for CIN. The study found that women who cleared HPV infection had a significantly increased risk of incident CIN 2 or worse lesions, while those with persistent HPV infection had an even higher risk of such lesions. The study also highlights the importance of long-term surveillance and the possibility of extending screening intervals among HPV negative women.

Summary: HPV-negative cervical cancers, predominantly adenocarcinomas, pose challenges in diagnosis and management due to unclear etiology and possible false negative results. It is important to pay greater attention to these cases as they are often diagnosed at advanced stages with poor prognoses.

Summary: Each year in the US, about 100,000 people are treated for cervical precancer, 14,000 are diagnosed with cervical cancer, and 4,000 die from it. Almost all cervical cancers worldwide are caused by certain HPV genotypes. HPV vaccination at ages 9 to 12 can prevent over 90% of cervical precancers and cancers. Cervical cancer can be prevented through screening and treatment of cervical precancer in individuals with a cervix aged 21 to 65.

Summary: The study compared HPV prevalence among high-grade cervical precancers and invasive cervical cancers before and after HPV vaccine availability. No significant reduction in vaccine-type prevalence was observed between the two studies, likely due to low HPV vaccination coverage among women in the postvaccine study. Monitoring HPV-type prevalence through population-based strategies remains important for evaluating the impact of the HPV vaccine.

No significant association was found in nested case-control studies and cohort studies, indicating that cohort studies provide higher evidence of no association between night shift work and the risk of breast cancer.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the association between consumption of sugar-sweetened soft drinks (SSSDs) and the risk of gastrointestinal (GI) cancer. The findings suggest that SSSD consumption is modestly associated with an increased risk of GI cancer, with a significant positive dose-response relationship. Specifically, the consumption of SSSDs is significantly associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer.

Due to the possible gateway effect of EC use to cigarette smoking in this population, stricter regulations and restrictions on EC advertisements are needed.
