Summary: An established score named (ABC)(2)D was developed to predict the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, incorporating seven risk factors. The (ABC)(2)D score outperformed the CRUSADE score in predicting acute gastrointestinal bleeding risk. This new risk-scoring model may help identify patients at significant risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.

Summary: This study compares the impact of aspirin alone (ASAA) and dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) on perioperative outcomes of carotid endarterectomy (CEA). The results show that although patients on DAPT have a lower risk of stroke, they also have a higher risk of bleeding. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid DAPT during CEA if possible.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate post-polypectomy bleeding (PPB) in patients receiving antiplatelet therapy and undergoing EMR for polyp removal. The results showed that continuous use of antiplatelet agents was significantly associated with higher PPB in clopidogrel users, but not in aspirin users. Therefore, endoscopists should consider discontinuing clopidogrel during EMR that includes polypectomy.

Summary: This study investigates whether ticagrelor/aspirin can further reduce the risk of stroke recurrence in patients with positive diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) compared to clopidogrel/aspirin. The results show that ticagrelor/aspirin is associated with a lower risk of stroke in patients with positive DWI compared to clopidogrel/aspirin. Therefore, imaging evaluation should be emphasized in future clinical research and practice to target the best candidates for genotype-guided dual antiplatelet therapy.

Summary: This study compared the safety and effectiveness of clopidogrel and aspirin in treating Kawasaki disease with mild-to-moderate liver injury. It found that clopidogrel treatment reduced the risk of aggravated liver injury compared to aspirin treatment, with similar recovery time for liver enzymes and no significant difference in fever. The probability of nonresponse to immunoglobulin and the length of hospitalization were also lower in the clopidogrel group. In conclusion, clopidogrel may be superior to aspirin for Kawasaki disease with mild-to-moderate liver injury.

Summary: This study investigated the association between CYP2B6 polymorphisms and the efficacy of clopidogrel in patients with minor stroke or transient ischemic attack. The results showed no significant difference in the efficacy of aspirin plus clopidogrel compared with aspirin alone, regardless of the presence of CYP2B6 polymorphisms. Therefore, both carriers and noncarriers of CYP2B6 polymorphisms may benefit from aspirin plus clopidogrel treatment for secondary stroke prevention.

Summary: This study investigated the risk factors for gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with cerebral infarction after dual antiplatelet therapy. Cerebral infarction patients who received dual antiplatelet therapy between January 2019 and December 2021 in Nanchang University Affiliated Ganzhou Hospital were included. Propensity score matching was used to compare the bleeding and nonbleeding groups. Conditional logistic regression analysis identified long-term use of aspirin and severity of cerebral infarction as risk factors for gastrointestinal bleeding, while the use of PPIs was found to be a protective factor.

Summary: This study evaluated the expression of tight junction proteins (TJPs), including claudin-1 and -2, occludin, and tight junction protein 1 (TJP1), in relation to Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and eradication in gastric carcinogenesis. The results showed that Hp infection affects TJP expression, with lower expression of TJP1 in Hp(+) controls and higher expression in Hp(+) gastric cancer (GC) patients. However, the high expression of TJP1 in Hp(+) GC patients was restored to control levels after Hp eradication.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the response of rat colon to a high-fat diet (HFD) and the effect of Clostridium butyricum on HFD-induced intestinal inflammation and production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) according to sex. The results showed that HFD significantly increased inflammation scores and fat proportions. Clostridium butyricum improved HFD-induced colonic inflammation, increased SCFA production, and enhanced the expression of tight junction proteins. These effects were more pronounced in male rats, showing a sex difference.

Summary: The sex/gender of gastroenterologists has an impact on patients' satisfaction, compliance, and clinical outcomes. Female gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopist-patient gender concordance improves health-related outcomes, indicating the need for increased number of female GI endoscopists. While the number of women in the field of gastroenterology is increasing, it is not sufficient to meet the gender preferences of female patients. Gastroenterologists, particularly male endoscopists, are at a high risk of endoscopy-related injuries, with different distribution of injuries between males and females.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a common cancer that affects both men and women, but there are significant sex differences. Men have a higher risk and earlier onset of CRC, suggesting a protective role of estrogen. Female patients are more likely to develop aggressive right-sided colon cancer. There are differences in carcinogenic mechanisms between left and right CRC, with sex-based biological and sociocultural factors playing a role.
