Summary: Transcanalicular endoscopic dacryoplasty is commonly performed in specialized centers for lacrimal duct surgery. However, there is limited data regarding postoperative care, particularly the role of silicone tube intubation (STI) duration. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 576 adult patients and found that an STI duration of less than 3 months was associated with a higher long-term success rate than a duration of 3 months or longer. This finding suggests the importance of early removal of the STI in the care of patients undergoing transcanalicular microdrill dacryoplasty (MDP).

Summary: Based on long-term follow-up, the endoscopic step-up approach is not superior to the surgical step-up approach in reducing death or major complications in patients with infected necrotizing pancreatitis. However, patients assigned to the endoscopic approach have fewer pancreaticocutaneous fistulas and require fewer reinterventions after the initial 6-month follow-up.

Summary: Patients with moderate dysplasia are at a very high risk of developing lung cancer within 5 years, and quitting smoking significantly reduces this risk. Identifying dysplasia using initial bronchoscopy may be useful for risk stratification strategies in lung cancer screening programs.

Summary: Acute necrotizing pancreatitis, occurring in 10%-20% of acute pancreatitis patients, is associated with high mortality. Treatment has shifted from open necrosectomy to minimally invasive techniques like endoscopic interventions. However, there is currently no unified standard for endoscopic treatment, requiring consideration of multiple factors.

Summary: Endoscopic papillectomy (EP) is a relatively safe and minimally invasive treatment for papillary adenomas, but it carries a significant risk of recurrence. This retrospective study found that recurrence occurred in a significant proportion of patients, even 5 years after the procedure. Long-term follow-up is essential to monitor for recurrence.

Summary: This study examined the frequency, spectrum, and risk factors of post infection functional gastrointestinal disorders/disorders of gut-brain interaction (PI-FGID/DGBI) after COVID-19. The results showed a significantly higher number of PI-FGID/DGBI cases in COVID-19 patients compared to healthy controls at 3 and 6 months of follow-up. These findings are important for understanding and managing the long-term effects of COVID-19.

Summary: The study found that patients who received combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy, had bone sarcoma, central nervous system primitive tumor, or underwent autologous hematopoietic cell transplant were more likely to attend long-term follow-up visits. Additionally, factors such as health status, medical expenses, social status, and distance from the follow-up center also influenced attendance.

Summary: This study compared the clinical characteristics, outcomes, and healthcare utilization between chronic pancreatitis (CP) patients with and without pain. The results showed that among 368 CP patients, 49 (13.3%) were pain-free at diagnosis and remained so for >9 years. Compared to patients with pain, pain-free patients were older, had better disease progression, less exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) and recurrent acute pancreatitis (RAP), and had overall favorable outcomes with minimal resource utilization.

Summary: This study describes the clinical presentation and treatment outcomes in a nationwide cohort of patients with giant prolactinomas. The results show that dopamine agonists effectively reduced prolactin levels and tumor size, but some patients required additional treatments. The response to dopamine agonists after 1 year can help identify patients who may need more careful monitoring and additional treatment in some cases.

Summary: Photochemical internalization (PCI) is a novel technology that enhances the local therapeutic effect of cancer drugs by using a specially designed photosensitizing molecule. The main cytotoxic effect of PCI is the disruption of endosomal membranes to release drug molecules, resulting in delivery of chemotherapy drugs. PCI with gemcitabine showed promising results in patients with unresectable perihilar cholangiocarcinoma, with good disease control, response rates, and survival outcomes.
