The aim of this study was to assess the electrical activity of the masseter and anterior temporal muscles in subjects with severe bone resorption at two different times: ( a) the initial period, with the complete dentures they had worn for over 10 years, and (b) the final period, 5 months after having new dentures put into place. Twelve asymptomatic subjects were asked to respond to the questionnaire, according to the research diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders, before denture rehabilitation and 5 months after the new dentures were put in place. The electrical activity of the muscles was recorded during mastication in the initial and final period, using artificial food (Optocal). The operator monitored the 35 chewing cycles that were repeated to grind the artificial food. After wearing the new dentures for 5 months, the right anterior temporal muscle showed a statistical difference before and after denture rehabilitation at the beginning and end of mastication. Muscular capacity and ability reduced the electrical activity in the masseter muscles after rehabilitation. Copyright (c) 2008 S. Karger AG, Basel.

Alcohol and light-polymerizing glaze effect on the physical and mechanical properties of a bisacrylate composite resin before and after immersion in chlorhexidine gluconate

Summary: The in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of applying a 70% alcohol solution on the physical and mechanical properties of a bisacrylate composite resin, with and without the application of a light-polymerizing glaze, subjected to 0.12% CHX twice a day for 7 days. The results showed that the application of alcohol significantly optimized the properties of the composite resin, but the use of CHX had varying effects on microhardness and roughness when the glaze was applied.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the success and survival rates of cracked teeth restored in different directions. The results showed that previous endodontic treatment had a negative impact on the survival rate of cracked teeth. Additionally, early placement of full-coverage crowns improved the survival rate of cracked teeth regardless of the direction or number of crack lines.

Summary: The study found that different polymerization methods and cycles of ocular prosthesis resin can affect cytotoxicity and inflammatory response. Water bath polymerization showed high degree of conversion and less cytotoxicity, while autopolymerization and microwave polymerization triggered a more intense inflammatory response.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the reproducibility of four different centric relation recording techniques and the time required for each technique in edentulous individuals. Twelve subjects participated in the study, and four techniques were performed on each volunteer by the same operator. The reproducibility of each technique and the time spent on each technique were analyzed. The results showed that graphic recordings had better reproducibility and accuracy of the centric relation position.
