Summary: Studies have shown that altruism is favored by natural selection, but both relatedness and reproductive value are important factors influencing altruism. While relatedness has received extensive attention, reproductive value has been surprisingly neglected. We review how reproductive value modulates patterns of altruism in relation to individual differences in age, sex, and general condition, and discuss how social partners may manipulate each other's reproductive value to incentivize altruism.

Summary: A study on a recombinant inbred line population derived from a cross between two wheat varieties revealed the genetic relation between photosynthesis and grain yield-related traits. A total of 57 QTL associated with these traits were identified, and 12 QTL clusters were found to regulate multiple traits. Additionally, seven QTL clusters were associated with both photosynthesis and grain yield-related traits, and two QTL clusters co-located with reduced-height genes.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth and reproductive performance of Nile tilapia broodstocks of Thai and GIFT strains in different weight classes. The GIFT strain showed better reproductive performance, and the weight group of approximately 900 g was found to be the most suitable for commercial reproduction and larviculture.

Summary: Understanding the host's genetic background's contribution to cancer immunity has significant impact on the composition and functional orientation of the tumor immune microenvironment, with certain genes potentially acting as immune modulators. Investigating the effects of germline variants on immune traits provides a resource toward further understanding tumor-immune interactions.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of -656 T > G and 1349 T > G single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the APE1 gene on polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in Saudi women. The results showed that the 1349 T > G SNP was associated with PCOS, while the -656 SNP had no favorable effect on the APE1 gene.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of PZC and wettability of catalysts in the heterogeneous catalytic ozonation process. Results showed that catalysts with high wettability and neutral to slightly positive surface charge led to enhanced degradation of pollutants, while materials with strongly negative or positive surface charge and low wettability decreased the production of hydroxyl radicals. Ozone's affinity with catalyst surfaces and production of hydroxyl radicals were found to depend on surface charge and wettability, highlighting the importance of these parameters in the process.
