Summary: This study compared the safety and efficacy of endoscopic ultrasound-guided drainage (EUSD) and percutaneous drainage (PD) for postoperative pancreatic fluid collection (PFC). The results showed no significant difference between the two methods in terms of technical success, clinical success, PFC recurrence, and adverse events. This suggests that EUSD is as safe and effective as PD in treating postoperative PFC.

Summary: Endoscopic ultrasound guided-pancreatic duct drainage (EUS-PDD) is a technically challenging procedure for interventional endoscopists. It is most commonly indicated for patients with main pancreatic duct obstruction who have failed conventional endoscopic retrograde pancreatography (ERP) drainage or have surgically altered anatomy. EUS-PDD can be performed using either the EUS-rendezvous (EUS-RV) or the EUS-transmural drainage (TMD) techniques.

Summary: This study introduces a novel endoscopic therapy called endoscopic transgastric fenestration (ETGF) for (peri) pancreatic fluid collections (PFCs) adjacent to the gastric wall. Compared with percutaneous drainage (PCD), ETGF has a higher clinical success rate in managing PFCs adjacent to the gastric wall.

Summary: In patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer, ERCP is associated with lower mortality compared to PTBD, highlighting the critical role of ERCP in managing biliary obstruction from pancreatic cancer. Both ERCP and PTBD interventions were found to be beneficial for overall survival compared to no biliary intervention. Patients undergoing ERCP had shorter hospital stays and lower costs compared to PTBD recipients.

Summary: This study compared the clinical and radiologic resolution of symptomatic walled-off pancreatic necrosis achieved with the endoscopic step-up approach with or without radiology-guided percutaneous drainage. Results showed that both the endoscopic step-up approach and combined modality drainage were effective in relieving symptoms, but the endoscopic approach alone had a higher clinical success rate, achieved earlier clinical and radiologic resolution, and resulted in a shorter hospital stay.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of bedside, radiation-free EBD and fluoroscopic-guided PTBD in critically ill patients. The results showed that bedside EBD is as safe and effective as percutaneous drainage in the treatment of critically ill patients. However, experienced endoscopists are needed to perform the procedure.

Summary: Artificial intelligence applications in healthcare have significantly increased, specifically in the field of pancreatobiliary disorders, improving diagnostic accuracy and precision in clinical treatment decisions. However, caution is advised in interpreting AI-based literature due to limited external validation, and a multidisciplinary approach combining various data sources is recommended for better utilization of AI technologies to enhance patient care.

Summary: This systematic review examines case definitions of Crohn's disease and finds that more complex definitions involving multiple diagnostic codes and prescriptions have desirable diagnostic accuracy properties. The study suggests that health services researchers should validate case definitions in their cohorts and, if validation is not possible, use more complex definitions. Sensitivity analyses should be performed for studies without validated case definitions to confirm the robustness of their results.

Summary: This case-control study conducted within the US active-duty personnel cohort found an association between longstanding prior thyroid autoimmunity and the risk of papillary thyroid cancer. The association was not mediated by the diagnosis of thyroid autoimmunity and thyroid cancers were often diagnosed at an early stage when autoimmunity had been identified.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of CFTR modulators on pancreatic function in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). The systematic search revealed that CFTR modulators significantly reduced the occurrence of acute pancreatitis and improved indirect measures of pancreatic function. Future research is needed to further explore the mechanisms and impact of CFTR modulators on acute pancreatitis and pancreatic insufficiency caused by CFTR dysfunction.

Summary: A total of 2,098,056 oral health care encounters were identified through Medicare FFS claims during the study observation period, with a lower volume observed after 2019. Nearly 98% of encounters were related to those in which oral health diagnoses were recorded, and non-oral health care providers primarily submitted these claims. Most encounters included beneficiaries with chronic conditions, and a roughly equal proportion included those qualifying for Medicare on the basis of age and disability.
