Summary: Endoscopic thrombin injection is effective and safe for treating gastric varices and other portal-hypertension-related bleeding, including esophageal varices, ulcers secondary to endoscopic band ligation, and ectopic varices. Although there is a relatively high rate of rebleeding, overall mortality does not significantly differ between patient groups.

Summary: This study compared the long-term outcomes of patients with cirrhosis with gastric variceal bleeding and esophageal variceal bleeding. It found that rebleeding was more predominant in patients with gastric variceal bleeding, while ascites was the most significant event in patients with esophageal variceal bleeding.

Summary: This study evaluated the outcomes of therapeutic strategies for gastric variceal bleeding. Endoscopic therapies, with or without BRTO, were shown to be effective in preventing rebleeding. Risk factors associated with rebleeding were PVTT and alcoholic cirrhosis, while survival was influenced by MELD score and PVTT.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of endoscopic cyanoacrylate injection and balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO) to prevent rebleeding in patients with cirrhosis and gastric varices. The results showed that BRTO was more effective in preventing rebleeding from gastric varices, with similar impacts on complications and mortality.

Summary: Among cirrhotic patients, esophageal varices did not increase the risk of overt gastrointestinal bleeding following transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). The likelihood of a hemoglobin decline by at least 2 g/dL or blood transfusion within 48 hours after TEE was not significantly higher in patients with esophageal varices after adjusting for confounders. The timing of upper endoscopy relative to TEE did not impact the risk of secondary outcomes, suggesting routine preprocedural endoscopy may have limited utility.

Summary: The study evaluated the use of a silver-impregnated vascular graft in various situations, showing it to be a suitable alternative for infectious or potentially infectious conditions. The 30-day mortality rate was 19.7%, with a silver graft infection rate of 4.2%.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical course of patients with colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB) and identified risk factors for recurrent CDB (rCDB). The results showed that high Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) scores and distribution of colon diverticula were associated with rCDB.

Summary: The aim of this study was to analyze the characteristics of bleeding-related re-exploration after lung surgery and develop a protocol to reduce the incidence of this complication. The source of bleeding, surgical approach, and procedure were found to affect the pattern of postoperative bleeding. A protocol based on these findings was developed to reduce the proportion of bleeding-related re-exploration.

Summary: This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided injection of cyanoacrylate (CYA) for primary prophylaxis (PP) of gastric varices (GV). The results show that posttreatment GV bleeding and adverse events (AEs) are similar following primary and secondary GV prophylaxis.

Summary: EUS-CYA has a higher eradication success rate and fewer complications, recurrences, and rebleeding episodes than DEI-CYA used for GOV1 treatment. In addition, EUS-CYA did not impair liver function.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of endoscopic ultrasonography-guided cyanoacrylate injection (EUS-CYA) and direct endoscopic injection of cyanoacrylate (DEI-CYA) for the treatment of type 1 gastric varices. It found that EUS-CYA had a higher success rate in eradicating varices and fewer complications, recurrences, and rebleeding episodes compared to DEI-CYA. Additionally, EUS-CYA did not impair liver function.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed the anatomical and clinical characteristics of 41 patients with extracranial carotid artery aneurysms (ECAAs) and compared the outcomes of different treatment strategies. The study found that both surgical and endovascular treatments were safe and effective for ECAAs, with good long-term results depending on the anatomical location and morphology.

Summary: This study analyzed the risk factors and clinical outcomes of hemorrhagic duodenal GISTs, revealing a higher incidence of bleeding compared to gastric GISTs. Age, tumor size, and mitotic count were identified as risk factors for overall survival. Duodenal GISTs have a higher rate of tumor bleeding and re-bleeding after endoscopic hemostasis than gastric GISTs.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed gastric cancer patients with pathological stage pT1N1M0 and found that adjuvant chemotherapy may provide survival benefits for selected patients. Independent risk factors for reduced survival included sex, number of examined lymph nodes, and receiving AC. Patients were divided into three risk categories based on sex and lymph node status, with significant differences in survival observed between the groups.
