Summary: Brain tumors, specifically malignant gliomas, are a major cause of pediatric cancer death. In this study, we synthesized a family of polyglutamate-palbociclib conjugates to overcome limitations associated with free palbociclib in the treatment of pediatric brain tumors. We evaluated the activity of these conjugates in different types of brain tumor cells and discovered that the microenvironment and conformational changes influenced drug release kinetics and therapeutic output.

Summary: This work focuses on the design and synthesis of barbituric acid derivatives containing 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid and cinnamic acid scaffolds for the development of potent anticancer agents. The results showed that certain substitutions on the benzyl ring of barbituric acid derivatives led to increased antiproliferative activities. Mechanistic investigation revealed the potential of one derivative to induce cell cycle arrest and increase ROS levels.

Summary: A sorption-electroflotation method using carbon nanomaterials was developed to remove non-biodegradable and carcinogenic toxic metal ions. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon nanoshells (CNSs) were used to remove Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Fe(II), and Cu(II). Surface properties and composition of the nanomaterials were characterized, and different models were applied to analyze the data. The method showed excellent removal efficiency, with the highest percentage removal achieved through simultaneous sorption-electroflotation.

Summary: This article discusses the primary cause of poor and ambiguous results in the bioanalytical process, which is sample pre-treatment, particularly in clinical analysis. It focuses on both classical and new techniques for pre-treatment of complex sample matrices. The use of green solvents and alternative biological samples like saliva, as well as new techniques that require minimal sample pre-treatment, are explored. The article is divided into sections on clinical applications and sample preparation techniques for diagnostic purposes.

Summary: The production of economic green hydrogen fuel is in high demand. In this study, hydrogen generation by water radiolysis of a hexane-water system on ZrO2 surface was investigated at different temperatures. The radiation-catalytic decomposition of hexane-water increased at high temperatures and resulted in an increase in hydrogen production. At a temperature of 673 K, a chain mode conversion of the key products of hexane-water led to molecular hydrogen. The maximum yield of hydrogen achieved was 188.5 molecule/100 eV with the n-ZrO2 + C6H14(ads)-water (0.003 g: 0.0051 g: 0.0015 g) system at 673 K.

Summary: In this study, the enantio-separation of three chiral sulfoxide drugs was achieved on a Chiralpak AS-3R column using acetonitrile-water as the mobile phase. The chiral separation was validated properly with LOD and LOQ values of 9.70-14.16 and 29.39-42.91 μg/mL, respectively. The enantiomer elution order was confirmed through experimental and theoretical methods. A simple, fast, reliable, and thermodynamically stable HPLC method was developed for the separation and determination of enantiomer elution order of the chiral sulfoxide drugs.
