Lung ischemia-reperfusion injury (LIRI) may occur in the region of the affected lung after reperfusion therapy. The inflammatory response mechanisms related to LIRI in pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE), especially in chronic PTE, need to be studied further. In a PTE model, inflammatory response and apoptosis may occur during LIRI and nitric oxide (NO) inhalation may alleviate the inflammatory response and apoptosis of pneumocytes during LIRI. A PTE canine model was established through blood clot embolism to the right lower lobar pulmonary artery. Two weeks later, we performed embolectomy with reperfusion to examine the LIRI changes among different groups. In particular, the ratio of arterial oxygen partial pressure to fractional inspired oxygen (PaO2/FiO(2)), serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), myeloperoxidase concentrations in lung homogenates, alveolar polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs), lobar lung wet to dry ratio (W/D ratio), apoptotic pneumocytes, and lung sample ultrastructure were assessed. The PaO2/FiO(2) in the NO inhalation group increased significantly when compared with the reperfusion group 4 and 6 h after reperfusion (368.83 +/- A 55.29 vs. 287.90 +/- A 54.84 mmHg, P < 0.05 and 380.63 +/- A 56.83 vs. 292.83 +/- A 6 0.34 mmHg, P < 0.05, respectively). In the NO inhalation group, TNF-alpha concentrations and alveolar PMN infiltration were significantly decreased as compared with those of the reperfusion group, 6 h after reperfusion (7.28 +/- A 1.49 vs. 8.90 +/- A 1.43 pg/mL, P < 0.05 and [(19 +/- A 6)/10 high power field (HPF) vs. (31 +/- A 11)/10 HPF, P < 0.05, respectively]. The amount of apoptotic pneumocytes in the lower lobar lung was negatively correlated with the arterial blood PaO2/FiO(2), presented a positive correlation trend with the W/D ratio of the lower lobar lung, and a positive correlation with alveolar PMN in the reperfusion group and NO inhalation group. NO provided at 20 ppm for 6 h significantly alleviated LIRI in the PTE model. Our data indicate that, during LIRI, an obvious inflammatory response and apoptosis occur in our PTE model and NO inhalation may be useful in treating LIRI by alleviating the inflammatory response and pneumocyte apoptosis. This potential application warrants further investigation.

N6-methyladenosine-modified USP13 induces pro-survival autophagy and imatinib resistance via regulating the stabilization of autophagy-related protein 5 in gastrointestinal stromal tumors

Zhishuang Gao, Chao Li, Haoyu Sun, Yibo Bian, Zhiwei Cui, Nuofan Wang, Zhangjie Wang, Yang Yang, Zonghang Liu, Zhongyuan He, Bowen Li, Fengyuan Li, Zheng Li, Linjun Wang, Diancai Zhang, Li Yang, Zekuan Xu, Xueming Li, Hao Xu

Summary: The study identified USP13 as an essential deubiquitinase that stabilizes ATG5 and promotes autophagy and IM resistance in GIST cells. PAK1 kinase was found to be involved in this process, enhancing the interaction between ATG5 and USP13. The researchers also discovered that N-6-methyladenosine methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) mediated the stabilization of USP13 mRNA through IGF2BP2, and an inhibitor of USP13 was shown to enhance the efficacy of IM treatment in GIST cell-derived xenograft models.

Magneto-structural correlations of dinickel(II) complexes with phenoxido/azido coligands: A theoretical investigation

Shuchang Luo, Liyan Zhang, Xudong Zhai, Xiaohui Yang, Xiaoyuan Sun

Summary: The magneto-structural relationship of a dinickel(II) complex with phenoxido/azido coligands was studied using the DFT-BS method. The calculated magnetic coupling constant agreed well with the experimental result. Spin population analyses showed a spin delocalization mechanism in the interactions of the paramagnetic center Ni(II). The nature of the magnetic coupling between Ni(II) ions changed from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic with increasing distance between the ions.

Wei Wang, Mengchen Zhou, Tonghua Zhang, Zhaosheng Feng

Summary: This study investigates the effects of spatial structure, seasonality, and temperature sensitivity of incubation period on the transmission of Zika virus using a PDE model with periodic delay. The simulations show that R0 can be overestimated in the periodic system, underestimated in the absence of seasonality, and reducing the incubation period may reduce the risk of disease transmission.

Hanbing Xu, Songbai Song, Jun Li, Tianli Guo

Summary: The highly non-linear and nonstationary nature of runoff events in changing environments makes accurate and reliable runoff forecasting difficult. In this study, a hybrid model was proposed by integrating various methods, including Bayesian inference and support vector regression, to improve the prediction accuracy. Credible intervals were used to analyze the uncertainty of the parameters and prediction results.

The Precision Defect Engineering with Nonmetallic Element Refilling Strategy in g-C3N4 for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Yujie Liu, Muhammad Tayyab, Wenkai Pei, Liang Zhou, Juying Lei, Lingzhi Wang, Yongdi Liu, Jinlong Zhang

Summary: Traditional defect engineering and doping strategies are commonly used to enhance H-2 evolution, but their uncontrollability may not always result in efficient activity. This study presents a defect-induced heteroatom refilling strategy to synthesize carbon nitrides with controlled heteroatom introduction on efficient N1 sites. The refilling of B, P, and S sites shows stronger H2O adsorption and dissociation capacity compared to traditional doping, making it an optimal pathway for H-2 production. The heteroatom-refilled catalysts exhibit a high internal electric field strength, enabling fast electron transfer and achieving a hydrogen production rate of up to 20.9 mmol g(-1) h(-1). This work provides insights into controlled defect engineering of photocatalysts and offers a universal modification strategy for heteroatoms and co-catalyst systems in H-2 production.

Two Calix[3]Phenothiazine-Based Amorphous Pure Organic Room-Temperature Phosphorescent Supramolecules Mediated by Guest

Yonghui Sun, Linnan Jiang, Lijuan Liu, Yong Chen, Wen-Wen Xu, Jie Niu, Yuexiu Qin, Xiufang Xu, Yu Liu

Summary: Two kinds of amorphous solid-state supramolecular systems with purely organic room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) were reported, which were activated by calix[3]phenothiazine (C[3]Pz) and 1,2-/1,3-dicyanobenzene (1,2-/1,3-DCB). The RTP of these supramolecular systems was entirely from the interaction between 1,2-/1,3-DCB and C[3]Pz, forming dense supramolecular complexes, leading to two different phosphorescence emissions. The use of 1,2-DCB and 1,3-DCB as molecular rivets fixed the C[3]Pz, inhibiting molecular vibration and reducing nonradiative relaxation, resulting in effective RTP emission with high quantum yields.
