Summary: This study evaluated the effects of extracts from transgenic rice on inhibiting adipogenesis and anti-inflammatory activity. The results showed that the extracts significantly reduced lipid accumulation in cells and inhibited the expression of adipogenesis-related mRNA and inflammation-related factors. Therefore, transgenic rice may have potential as an obesity-reducing and/or -preventing agent.

Summary: Mounting evidence shows the close association between ambient PM2.5 exposure and obesity development, with adipose tissue being an important target. This study employed a preadipocyte differentiation model to comprehensively explore the adipogenic potential of PM2.5. PM2.5 exposure significantly increased fatty acid uptake, lipid accumulation, and adipogenic differentiation in a concentration-dependent manner. Transcriptome and lipidome analyses revealed disruption of transcriptional and lipid profiling at 10 μg/mL PM2.5. Activation of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) pathway and metabolism of glycerophospholipids, glycerolipids, and sphingolipids were most affected during adipocyte differentiation. The study demonstrated that PM2.5 promoted adipogenesis by activating PPAR. through reporter gene assays. The findings provide insights into PM2.5-induced adipogenesis and potential biomolecular targets for preventing PM2.5-induced obesity and related metabolic diseases.

Summary: This study found that Metallothionein 3 (MT3) plays an important role in the differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells into adipocytes. Overexpression of MT3 inhibited adipocyte differentiation and reduced the levels of adipogenic transcription factors C/EBPa and PPAR?. Further analysis revealed that MT3 suppressed the transcriptional activity of PPAR?, and this effect was not mediated by a direct interaction between MT3 and PPAR?. Additionally, MT3 overexpression decreased reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels during early adipocyte differentiation, while treatment with antimycin A, which induces ROS generation, restored the ROS levels.

Summary: Convolvulus pluricaulis is a commonly used Indian herb in Ayurvedic medicine known for its neuroprotective and neuroinflammatory action. Recent studies have shown its involvement in lipidic and glucidic metabolism, particularly in the control of hyperlipidaemia and diabetic conditions. It has been found to promote adipocyte differentiation and regulate glucose metabolism through the modulation of key regulators such as PPAR gamma and GLUT-4. Additionally, it exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by downregulating cytokines associated with insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. These findings suggest that Convolvulus pluricaulis could have potential benefits in glycemia and may be used as an adjunctive treatment for diabetes or for better glucose control.

Summary: 2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP), a commonly used flame retardant and food packaging material, exhibits high lipophilicity and bioaccumulation properties, primarily targeting adipocytes. The toxicity of EHDPP on preadipocytes and the underlying mechanism have not been fully understood. This study identified 7 differentially expressed miRNAs in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes exposed to EHDPP, with miR-155-5p being the most significantly down-regulated miRNA. Inhibition of miR-155-5p promoted adipocyte differentiation, while its overexpression counteracted EHDPP-induced adipogenesis.
