One quantum excitation of methane to CH4(nu(3) = 1) was found to prohibit the CH bond rupture, thus slowing down the total reactivity toward F atoms, and when the reaction does occur, only stretch-excited methyl radical CH3(nu(1)/nu(3) =1) products have significant yields.
