Summary: This systematic review examines the prevalence of BRCA mutations in endometrial cancer patients and the incidence of endometrial cancer in BRCA mutation women patients. The review finds that BRCA1/2 mutations are present in 4.3% of endometrial cancer patients, with BRCA1 mutations being the most common. However, only 5 studies found a correlation between BRCA mutations and an increased risk of endometrial cancer. The review suggests that routine hysterectomy at the time of risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy may not be necessary.

Summary: RRSO is an effective method to reduce BC risk among women with BRCA1/2 mutation, especially in younger women. The immediate 5 years after surgery is the most beneficial time period for RRSO.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of satisfaction with medical communication and cancer anxiety on post-surgery psychological quality of life (QoL) among high-risk women who underwent prophylactic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (PBSO). The results showed that interventions targeting medical communication quality and cancer anxiety in a genetic counseling setting could improve post-surgery psychological QoL for these patients.

Summary: The study found that a p53 signature is common in both BRCA1/2 mutation carriers and controls, but pre-invasive and invasive lesions are more common in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers. Genetic and clinical characteristics may influence the progression to malignancy.

Summary: Prophylactic Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy (PBSO) can lead to body image distress (BID), particularly among younger women with a history of invasive breast cancer treatments. This study found that one third of women who underwent PBSO reported BID, with concerns mainly focused on physical appearance and attractiveness. BID was also found to be a significant predictor of sexual distress, and couple satisfaction was found to mediate this relationship. Psychological interventions tailored to promote body self-acceptance may be necessary for younger women with a history of invasive breast cancer treatment.

Summary: About 38% of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers have undergone or have yet to undergo risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy within the recommended National Comprehensive Cancer Network age range. The most common reason for the delay in risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was delayed identification of BRCA mutation, noted in 79% of patients with delayed surgery.

Summary: This study compared postoperative complication rates and healthcare charges between patients who underwent coordinated versus staged breast surgery and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO). The results showed that the coordinated group had a higher incidence of postoperative complications, while the costs were similar. These data can help high-risk patients make informed decisions.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the decision-making process related to BRCA1/2 genetic testing, risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO), and risk-reducing mastectomy (RRM) among the general public, cancer patients, and healthcare professionals in South Korea. The results showed that clinicians and researchers had the highest willingness to undergo testing and surgeries, with factors such as gender, age, education level, and household income associated with the willingness. Additionally, patients, clinicians, and researchers were more likely to share information with family.

Summary: Without preventive interventions, women with germline pathogenic variants in BRCA1 or BRCA2 have high lifetime risks for breast cancer and tubo-ovarian cancer. Risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (rrBSO) is effective in reducing tubo-ovarian cancer risk for BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers, but whether it reduces breast cancer risk is less clear. Studies on the association between rrBSO and breast cancer risk are observational and subject to bias, limiting conclusions on causation.

Summary: In this retrospective cohort study, researchers found a significant reduction in ovarian cancer incidence in women with histologically proven endometriosis after bilateral salpingooophorectomy (BSO). The results suggest that endometriosis surgery could be a preventive strategy for ovarian cancer in high-risk women with endometriosis.

Summary: This study explored the psychosexual impacts of risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, with results indicating that women undergoing the surgery often feel unprepared for the psychological and sexual side effects. RRBSO was found to commonly cause distress and problems for women and their partners.

Summary: This study aimed to identify barriers to hormone therapy (HT) use among women with BRCA1/2 mutations after prophylactic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO). A subanalysis of a subset of female BRCA1/2 mutation carriers who had undergone a prophylactic BSO was conducted. The results showed that only 40% of women reported ever using HT, and patient fears and physician discouragement were identified as barriers to HT use.

Summary: This study investigates the surgical impact and psychological outcomes of needleoscopic-assisted laparoscopy in RR-BSO for BRCA1/2 patients. The results show that the use of 2.4 mm instruments in ultra-minimally invasive surgery can reduce post-operative incisional pain, shorten hospitalization, and improve cosmetic and psychological outcomes, especially in breast cancer survivors.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of RRSO on breast cancer incidence and histopathological features in female BRCA1/2 GPV carriers. The results showed that RRSO did not decrease the risk of breast cancer in BRCA1 and BRCA2 GPV carriers, but the breast cancer cases diagnosed after RRSO tended to be smaller.
