Summary: The use of polyolefin blends, such as polyethylene (PE) and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), in 3D printing can help reduce the problems associated with high crystallization rates, such as shrinkage and warpage. Increasing the EVA content in the blend can decrease the crystallization rate of PE and improve the impact strength and processability of the printed objects.

Summary: The concentration of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and the vinyl acetate (VA) content in EVA have significant effects on the properties of bio-based high-density polyethylene (BioPE)/EVA blends. Increasing EVA concentration decreases the crystallinity of BioPE, while blends with higher VA content exhibit higher impact strength.

Summary: This study revealed that the local structure of the acetate group in EVA, particularly its association with the ethylene content, significantly affects the overall alcoholysis rate. An empirical model based on detailed kinetic studies of triads was proposed to predict the influence of ethylene content on the overall rate constant. Additionally, a self-acceleration phenomenon in EVA alcoholysis was discovered, although it was less pronounced compared to polyvinyl acetate.

Summary: In this study, the thermal conductivity of a series of EVA samples with different VAc contents at different temperatures was measured by the transient hot line method. A empirical formula between the thermal conductivity, temperature, and crystallinity of EVA was established, and the theoretical calculation based on this formula showed a good agreement with the experimental results within a 5% error. This empirical formula provides guidance for predicting the thermal conductivity of EVA samples with different VAc contents at different temperatures in the future.

Summary: The miscibility of EVA/OBC blends was investigated through melt-state viscoelastic properties and morphological analysis. SEM micrographs showed droplet-matrix morphology, with higher OBC content resulting in larger OBC-dispersed phase domain size. The complex viscosity of the blends deviated from the log-additivity rule, indicating strong phase interaction. Cole-Cole and Han plots indicated miscibility between EVA and OBC. The interfacial tension of the blends was determined using Palierne and Bousmina emulsion models. Creep properties were characterized using a dynamic mechanical analyzer, showing that OBC increased creep strains. Burger and Findley models were used to predict creep behaviors, showing improved creep rate with OBC incorporation.

Summary: In this study, EVA-B/EVA-w composites were prepared using EVA waste and different proportions of EVA-w. The addition of EVA-w improved tear strength properties but also increased shrinkage. Overall, EVA-w acts as a reinforcement filler for EVA-B, showing positive effects on mechanical properties.

Summary: This study prepared polypropylene composites filled with different contents of wood powder and characterized their properties. It was found that the addition of wood powder significantly increased the strength and modulus of the composites, but had a negative impact on impact strength. Dynamic mechanical testing showed that the storage modulus increased with the increase of wood powder content. Therefore, wood powder-filled polypropylene composites have the potential to replace traditional glass fiber-reinforced materials.

Summary: By studying the tensile and fracture behavior of PP/EVA/graphite blend nano-composites, it was found that surface-modified graphite can enhance the tensile properties and the preeminent fracture mechanism is the debonding of EVA from PP. Additionally, an increase in cavities and the size of fibrillar structures was observed with an increase in EVA content, leading to enhanced fracture toughness and matrix resistance.

Summary: Polymeric composites of PDMS and EVA with unmodified and modified calcium sulfate whisker were prepared via melt compounding method. The surface of CW was modified to increase its dispersion into the PDMS/EVA matrix. The thermal stability and mechanical properties of the composites were improved with the addition of modified CW. The contact angle and electrical properties of the composites were also measured.

Summary: This article investigates the influence of molecular interaction and morphology on the thermal and mechanical properties of LLDPE/wax blends. The cooling rate is not sufficient to determine the interactions between the molecules in the blends, therefore, samples were cooled at different rates to model the thermal and mechanical properties. The results show the cocrystallization of wax with LLDPE and confirm the rapid crystallization of both components.

Summary: Spin coating is commonly used to prepare thin films with uniformity and controlled thickness. However, it has not been successful in producing free-standing thin films of polyolefins due to their insufficient strength. In this study, we have achieved free-standing thin films of polyolefins, such as polyethylene, with varying thickness. These films can be used for hydrophobic coating, filtration membranes, and oil-sorbents.

Summary: Mixed polyolefin-based waste requires immediate attention to mitigate its negative impact on the environment. The separation of these plastics is energy-intensive due to their similar densities, and they cannot be blended without compatibilizers due to their inherent incompatibility. This study presents non-wettable microporous sheets made from recycled polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), which demonstrate efficient oil-water separation and high reusability. These findings emphasize the importance of sustainable solutions for plastic recycling and mitigating oil spill problems.
