Summary: The thermal degradation of mesoporous hydrated silica (MHS), mesoporous silica (MS), and alumina trihydrate (ATH) hybrid systems for flame retardant materials was investigated. The results show that MHS-ATH has higher thermal stability and a wider range of water release temperature, improving the flame retardancy effect compared to ATH.

Summary: In this study, hydrophobic and low-density silica-based gels were prepared using a self-catalyzed gelling process and ambient drying method. These gels have potential to be used as alternatives in cryogenic applications due to their reversible deformation, high failure strength, and low thermal conductivity at low temperatures.

Summary: A simple and inexpensive method was reported for preparing transparent and hydrophobic hybrid coatings on PVC substrates by depositing different silica materials using sol-gel method. The hybrid silica coatings showed increased transparency and hydrophobicity on PVC substrates, making them suitable for outdoor applications. Characterization techniques including FTIR, UV/Vis spectroscopy, TEM, TGA, AFM, SE, and water contact-angle measurements were used to analyze the obtained materials.

Summary: High refractive index polyimide/titania nanoparticle hybrid materials were synthesized and characterized. The titania content in the hybrid materials was successfully tuned up to 30% by optimizing the coating conditions and reaction parameters. The refractive index of the hybrid materials increased linearly with increasing titania content.

Summary: The present study investigated the structure, morphology, thermal behavior, and bacterial growth analysis of novel three-component hybrid materials synthesized by the sol-gel method. The materials were found to be amorphous and homogeneous regardless of the content of PEG or CGA. The PEG-rich materials retained a lower content of water, while the materials containing CGA had a higher water content due to a larger number of H-bonds with water.

Summary: We prepared g-C3N4/Ag/CoFe1.95Eu0.05O4 heterojunctions that effectively absorbed visible light and efficiently separated photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The kinetic constants of the Z-type heterojunctions gC3N4/Ag/CoFe1.95Eu0.05O4 in the degradation of methyl orange were significantly higher than those of gC3N4/Ag/CoFe1.95Eu0.05O4 and g-C3N4, indicating its potential in photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants.

Summary: The study focused on the atomic oxygen erosion resistance of SiO2-Al2O3 doped composite PI film, showing that the two-component hybrid film has notably higher resistance compared to the single component one, attributed to the synergistic effect of SiO2-Al2O3 inducing a more stable protective layer on the material surface. The findings suggest that the two-component PI composite film with enhanced AO resistance holds promise in space applications where AO erosion is a concern.

Summary: The development of hybrid materials with organic-inorganic co-network molecular structure is a promising method to enhance the stability and mechanical properties of biopolymers. By incorporating plant-derived active compounds into the scaffolds, properties such as physicochemical characteristics and mechanical strength can be improved and tailored for bone tissue engineering applications. Furthermore, the inclusion of bioactive components has been shown to further promote the potential use of the scaffolds in guided bone regeneration applications.

Summary: The diffusion process of water molecules within a polyetherimide (PEI) glassy matrix has been analyzed through experimental analysis of water sorption kinetics by FTIR spectroscopy, combined with theoretical information from Molecular Dynamics simulations, and with the expression of water chemical potential provided by a non-equilibrium lattice fluid model. This analysis allowed for a convincing description of the diffusion mechanism of water in PEI, providing molecular details of the process related to the effects of the cross- and self-hydrogen bonding established in the system on the dynamics of water mass transport.

Summary: The sorption of pure CO2, CH4, and CO2/CH4 binary gas mixtures in amorphous glassy PPO was studied at 35 degrees C up to 1000 Torr. A combination of barometry and FTIR spectroscopy in the transmission mode was used to measure the sorption of gases in polymers. The solubility of CO2 in the binary mixtures was found to be similar to that of pure CO2 up to a total pressure of 1000 Torr and for CO2 mole fractions of about 0.5 and 0.3. The NET-GP modeling approach was employed to fit the solubility data of pure gases and to predict the solubility of CO2/CH4 mixed gases in PPO, with a deviation of less than 9.5% from experimental results for CO2 solubility.
