Summary: This study focuses on specialty crop production regions in California and investigates the changes in energy-based agroclimate metrics over the two most recent normal period. The observed changes in agroclimate metrics are consistent with global warming trends, showing longer frost-free periods, increased heat exposure, and increased evapotranspiration. The trend analysis also reveals significant increases in growing degree days across all agricultural regions.

Summary: Accurate and comprehensive operative notes are vital for patient care, but the quality of these notes often varies. This study found that standardized training and feedback on operative dictations are lacking for surgical trainees. The results highlight the need for a formal curriculum to improve residents' ability to create effective operative notes.

Summary: Recent efforts to improve online learning and address racial disparities in health have led to the implementation of technology-enhanced learning initiatives on diversity issues. However, there is limited evidence on the effectiveness and sustainability of these interventions. In a pilot study with 14 dermatology trainees, we found that knowledge improvement from such an initiative was temporary and over half of the trainees lacked confidence in applying their new knowledge in practice. These results highlight a disconnect between perceived effectiveness and actual benefits of one-off education initiatives.

Summary: This study evaluated the usefulness of thyroidectomy videos posted on YouTube for surgical training. A total of 22 videos met the selection criteria. The majority of the videos were of medium quality, with low thyroidectomy-specific grading scores. Therefore, YouTube-sourced thyroidectomy videos should be used to supplement traditional educational methods.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between winter chill accumulation for specialty crops in California and large-scale teleconnection indices, finding that Chill Portions (CP) generally have a stronger response to teleconnection patterns than Chill Hours (CH). The correlations between chill accumulation and teleconnections are generally weaker during the summer, with significant correlation observed 2-10 months before the start of the chill accumulation period.

Summary: In the era of vaccine hesitancy, there is an acute need to develop an approach to reduce apprehension towards vaccinations. This study aims to provide an overview of existing educational interventions for healthcare providers on effective vaccine discussion. Several knowledge gaps were identified, including limited feasibility and generalizability of interventions, inadequate coverage of nursing and pharmacy disciplines, and the lack of interventions addressing self-monitoring and emotion management during difficult conversations. It is crucial to address these gaps and provide comprehensive educational interventions to support healthcare providers in communicating effectively with vaccine hesitant patients.

Summary: The study found that most dermatology residents prefer using pig skin over synthetic skin for surgical training, but synthetic skin can be conveniently and safely utilized for hands-on surgical practice. Further refinement may be necessary to make synthetic skin comparable in feel and use to animal skin.
