Summary: A genomic analysis of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei strain PS23 revealed no virulence or antibiotic resistance genes. The strain showed no ornithine decarboxylase activity in vitro and was sensitive to tested antibiotics. Genotoxicity tests for PS23 were negative, and no adverse effects were observed in a 28-day repeated oral dose toxicity study using an ICR mouse model. Additionally, supplementation with live or heat-killed PS23 relieved colonic inflammation in mice.

Summary: Patient complaints are underused in patient safety improvement, but a systematic evaluation of complaint data can help identify diagnostic safety concerns and patterns of failures in the diagnostic process. By analyzing patient complaint data and corresponding medical record review, health systems can monitor diagnostic safety concerns and opportunities for learning and improvement.

Summary: The study investigated the anti-inflammatory activity of Mometasone furoate (MF) in ocular tissues. It was found that at appropriate doses, MF was non-toxic and could attenuate disease progression, improve clinical, morphological, and functional parameters. The levels of inflammatory markers were also significantly reduced. Therefore, MF should be further explored as a promising drug for the treatment of ocular inflammation.

Summary: Abatacept treatment was found to be safe and effective for refractory jLS subjects, improving both skin and musculoskeletal activity. The majority of subjects were considered responders at 12 months, with fewer patients maintaining response up to 18-24 months. Approximately 22% of subjects were treatment failures and 16.7% discontinued abatacept due to adverse events, indicating room for improvement in treatment outcomes.

Summary: This study evaluated the biosafety of high-content TB products on mice. The results showed that HTE had low acute toxicity, but high doses of HTE could cause slight nephrotoxicity. This study provided valuable data for the TB safety assessment and promoted the application of this natural biomacromolecule in daily drinking.

Summary: The extract of Morella salicifolia exhibited antimycobacterial activity against different mycobacteria species, and the isolated compounds showed potential for drug development targeting M. tuberculosis. The most active compound, maslinic acid, displayed activity against rifampicin-resistant clinical isolates. Additionally, the crude extract showed good safety profile in vitro and in vivo.

Summary: Radiotherapy, a cancer treatment option using ionizing radiation, can damage both tumor cells and healthy cells. The use of radiosensitizers, especially nanotechnology-based ones, has shown potential in reducing side effects and enhancing treatment efficacy. This study evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of tumor-targeted, nano-sized liposomal radiosensitizers containing quantum dots-photosensitizer conjugate and found that it could kill more tumor cells with the same radiation doses used in clinical practice or achieve similar tumor cell destruction with lower radiation doses.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of two novel heavy dyes, DoubledyneTM and TwinTM, for macular surgery. The results showed that both dyes were safe and effective, with statistically significant improvements in vision and macular thickness after surgery. Further studies with larger populations and longer follow up are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: The present study evaluated the safety and effects of celery seed extract on hypertensive patients. The results showed that celery seed extract was safe and led to a reduction in blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, and lipid profile values, as well as improvements in kidney and liver functions. However, larger randomized trials are needed to confirm these findings.
