Summary: This study evaluated the antioxidant and anti-cancer activities of a Clerodendrum chinense leaf ethanolic extract. The extract exhibited strong free radical scavenging activities and anti-proliferative effects against A549 lung cancer cells. The main components responsible for the anti-proliferative effects were identified as hispidulin and verbascoside. The extract also showed selectivity towards cancer cells and inhibited colony formation and migration of lung cancer cells.

Summary: Kinkeliba, a popular bush tea in West African countries, has been found to have potential benefits for skin health. The extract from its leaves can improve cell survival rate and reduce skin inflammation caused by UV radiation. The extract also shows inhibitory effects on cellular reactive oxygen species and nitrotyrosine levels. Furthermore, topical application of the kinkeliba leaf extract gel can reduce skin inflammation and improve skin barrier function.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of Ramie leaf extracts (RLE) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. The results showed that RLE increased bone density, reduced osteoclasts and reactive oxygen species within bone tissues, and improved bone microstructure. RLE also inhibited the expression of osteoclastogenesis-related genes and reduced intracellular ROS levels.

Summary: Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by immune imbalance and skin barrier dysfunction. The commonly used treatments have side effects, so there is interest in using plant extracts. Callicarpa dichotoma is a traditional herbal medicine with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but its role in AD is not yet known.

Summary: Morus alba L. water extracts (MLE) improve blood glucose and insulin levels, decrease inflammatory cytokines expression, and lower serum and feces branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) levels. MLE also has significant impacts on the bacterial genera correlated with serum and feces BCAAs. These findings indicate that the antidiabetic effect of MLE is associated with gut microbiota modification and tissue-specific expression of BCAAs catabolic enzyme.

Summary: The SLITRK1 gene mutation and loss of striatal cholinergic interneurons (ChIs) are associated with Tourette syndrome (TS). In a mouse model, Slitrk1-KD mice exhibited TS-like tic behaviors, impaired prepulse inhibition, and delayed sensorimotor response. These characteristics were correlated with lower levels of striatal Slitrk1 protein, fewer Slitrk1-containing ChIs, and fewer activated ChIs in Slitrk1-KD mice.
