Summary: With major advances in molecular profiling for lung cancer treatments, there is a growing need for high quality EBUS-TBNA samples to ensure cellularity. This review outlines technical aspects of EBUS-TBNA, including sonographic lymph node characterization, optimal needle choice, suction biopsy technique, and the role of rapid on-site evaluation. Attention to these technical details is crucial for maximizing EBUS-TBNA biopsies efficiency for molecular testing.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether lymph nodes considered triple normal on CT scanning, PET scanning, and CLNS evaluation require routine biopsy, and found that these nodes have a high negative predictive value.

Summary: This case study presents a patient with lung cancer and coexisting rare intratracheal leiomyoma and pneumoconiosis. After preoperative evaluation with EBUS-TBNA, the patient underwent surgery which revealed bronchial leiomyoma and no metastasis in dissected lymph nodes, leading to a diagnosis of squamous cell lung carcinoma.

Summary: Bronchoscopy is a crucial tool in the management of lung cancer, allowing for minimally invasive procedures and intervention on cancer-related airway pathologies. It has been proven to be safe and effective, and the next phase of research focuses on peripheral ablation, which has the potential to open new possibilities for bronchoscopy.

Summary: Endobronchial metastasis after surgery of NSCLC is a rare type of recurrence. EBBT may be a promising treatment with curative intent in these cases, offering both palliative and definitive benefits. The use of EBBT in combination with EBRT can achieve local control without severe adverse events for patients.

Summary: In this study, we used upgraded endoscopic techniques to reach nodules in the periphery of the lungs and perform biopsies on lesions without endobronchial findings. The results showed that male patients were more common, forceps was the main tissue extraction technique, and tumors sized 1 to 2 cm were the most encountered. Less than 20 minutes were needed for half of the patients, and the majority of tumors were located in the central area of the lungs. Larger nodules and peripheral lesions required less use of C-Arm and had a procedure time between 20-40 minutes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of screening for pulmonary embolism (PE) using endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) in patients with suspected lung cancer, and the predictive value of positive findings for PE. The results showed that EBUS screening for PE is feasible and has a high positive predictive value for the diagnosis of PE. Based on these findings, we believe that EBUS assessment of the pulmonary vasculature may have a role as a routine screening tool for PE.

Summary: Electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy combined with radial endobronchial ultrasound is effective and safe for peripheral lung nodule biopsies, especially for solid nodules. However, there is still room for improvement in the diagnostic yield for subsolid nodules.

Summary: This study assessed the imaging ability of CE-EBUS in vitro and in vivo and found that CE-EBUS can produce contrast imaging comparable to commercial pre-clinical and clinical ultrasound systems. CE-EBUS has the potential for clinical characterization of mediastinal lymph nodes in lung cancer patients.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the diagnostic performance of EBUS-TBNA as the first-choice nodal staging procedure for determining PD-L1 expression in NSCLC patients. The results showed that EBUS-TBNA as the first procedure provides reliable specimens for detecting PD-L1 expression in advanced NSCLC patients and can guide immunotherapy.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of the 22G Acquire TBNB needle and the Expect TBNA needle in PD-L1 analysis in lung cancer patients. The results showed that the 22G Acquire TBNB needle had advantages in obtaining tissue specimens, but did not significantly improve the suitability rate for PD-L1 analysis.
