Summary: Maternal smoking rates in Spain showed a fluctuating trend from 1980 to 2016, with increases in the 80s, plateau in the 90s, reduction in the 2000s, and slowing decrease from 2009 onwards. Factors associated with higher smoking prevalence included younger age, being born in Spain, lower education level, unplanned pregnancy, and alcohol consumption.

Summary: Nonadherence to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) is common among pregnant women with asthma, with factors such as smoking, non-Caucasian/non-Indigenous ethnicity, adult asthma diagnosis, and lower lung function being associated with nonadherence at baseline, while factors like younger maternal age, higher parity, and not being prescribed ICS at baseline are associated with persistent nonadherence during pregnancy.

Summary: In this study, the prevalence and determinants of risk factors for non-noncommunicable diseases, such as smoking, overweight/obesity, and hypertension, among reproductive-age women in Bangladesh were investigated. Factors such as age, education, wealth index, and geographic location were found to be associated with these risk factors. The findings emphasize the importance of targeted public health interventions to promote physical activity and reduce tobacco use, particularly in the coastal region.

Summary: This study utilized genetic prediction methods to identify smoking, hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and obesity as potential risk factors for intracranial aneurysm. On the other hand, type 2 diabetes mellitus was found to be associated with a decreased risk of intracranial aneurysm. Furthermore, body fat percentage was significantly associated with subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the status of postpartum smoking relapse at 1 month postpartum among Japanese women and its associated risk factors. The results found that besides maternal alcohol and smoking habits before pregnancy, breastfeeding and partner smoking were important factors in early postpartum smoking relapse in Japan.

Summary: This study investigated the adverse pregnancy outcomes and associated risk factors among pregnant women with syphilis in Hunan Province, China from 2013 to 2018. The results showed that the risk factors for adverse pregnancy outcomes included age younger than 20 or older than 35, unmarried status, late detection and diagnosis of syphilis, syphilis diagnosis during labor, syphilis infection in the husband/sexual partner, lack of treatment, and nonstandard medication. Early detection and standard treatment of syphilis for pregnant women and their partners can help reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Summary: This study tested the causality between education and smoking using discordant twin pairs. The results support the hypothesis that education has a causal effect on current smoking status and smoking cessation. Furthermore, genetic factors also contribute to these associations, as seen in the greater differences within dizygotic twin pairs who share only 50% of their segregating genes.

Summary: This study examined the association between detailed features of pregnancy and the postpartum period with early onset breast cancer. The results revealed a higher proportion of triple negative breast cancer among young women with breast cancer, as well as a lower Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) index in parous women with triple negative breast cancer compared to other subtypes. This suggests the need for further research on the relationship between pregnancy-lactation-postpartum involution and breast cancer etiology.

Summary: This prospective cohort study conducted in Catalonia, Spain, aimed to examine the associations between sociodemographic, lifestyle, and clinical factors with cardiometabolic risk and its components during pregnancy. The study found that overweight/obesity, lower education level, and lack of physical activity were associated with an increased cardiometabolic risk in early pregnancy, while overweight/obesity, insufficient gestational weight gain, and higher social class were associated with a decreased cardiometabolic risk in the third trimester.

Summary: The TBI treatment practices in the three low- and middle-income countries are similar to international standards, but face challenges in equipment, hospital distribution, specialized personnel, and rehabilitation services. There are significant gaps in pre-hospital and rehabilitative care, as well as national leadership and data collection. Surveillance and standardized data collection are crucial in addressing treatment gaps and reducing the burden of TBI.
