Summary: This study analyzed data from the HCUP database from 2016 to 2018 and found that rhabdomyolysis patients with AKI were more likely to be older, have Medicare insurance, and have a higher comorbidity index. AKI was associated with higher mortality, longer hospital stays, and higher hospital costs in patients with rhabdomyolysis.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of carnosine and crocin on acute kidney injury caused by glycerol-induced rhabdomyolysis. The results showed that both carnosine and crocin could effectively prevent AKI by upregulating the expression of HO-1 and antioxidant system, and suppressing the generation of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, and inflammatory response.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of periostin (POSTN) in a rhabdomyolysis mice model of acute kidney injury (AKI). The study found that POSTN was highly expressed in the kidney after rhabdomyolysis and acted as a positive regulator of AKI. POSTN-null mice exhibited lower expression of inflammation-associated mRNAs and reduced tubular injury compared to wildtype mice. Targeting POSTN may provide a new therapeutic strategy against the development of AKI.

Summary: The incidence of kidney disease is increasing, posing a significant burden on healthcare systems and underscoring the need for new therapeutic targets. The HO system, specifically HO-1, has shown promise in protecting against various kidney injuries, but despite preclinical data, clinical translation has not yet been achieved. Future research may focus on identifying potential therapeutic interventions targeting HO-1 in kidney diseases.

Summary: Diquat poisoning can result in acute renal failure and rhabdomyolysis, with the possibility of inducing myocardial injury. Hemoperfusion and hemofiltration treatments have shown effectiveness in removing diquat from the blood.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of carbon dots derived from Pollen Typhae (PT-CDs) as a novel relieving strategy for acute kidney injury (AKI). PT-CDs showed significant activity in improving BUN and CRE levels, urine volume, kidney index, and histopathological morphology in a rat model of rhabdomyolysis-induced AKI. The interventions of PT-CDs also reduced inflammatory reaction and oxidative stress, which may contribute to their anti-AKI activities. Cytotoxicity assay and biosafety evaluation confirmed the high biocompatibility of PT-CDs.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effect of D-panthenol in rhabdomyolysis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). The results showed that D-panthenol protects the kidney tissue from pathological changes through antioxidant effects, normalization of mitochondrial metabolism, and modulation of glutathione-dependent signaling.

Summary: Skeletal muscle tissue (SKM) can be damaged due to various causes, with drug-induced myopathy being one of the most common. The clinical presentation of drug-induced myopathies can vary greatly, ranging from mild myalgias to severe weakness and rhabdomyolysis. However, current biomarkers for SKM injury lack sensitivity and specificity. This study proposes a strategy for drug safety monitoring using available biomarkers and discusses mechanisms and novel biomarkers for drug-induced SKM injury.

Summary: A targeting nanodrug delivery platform was developed using melanin nanoparticles coupled with PJ34 and anti-GPR97, which allows for photoacoustic self-monitoring and triple-collaborative treatment (antioxidant, antiapoptotic, and anti-inflammatory) of acute kidney injury (AKI). The nanoparticles exhibit excellent biocompatibility, broad-spectrum ROS scavenging ability, and antiapoptotic and anti-inflammatory activities. Immunohistochemical staining and routine blood tests confirmed the anti-inflammatory effects of the nanoparticles.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic potential and underlying mechanisms of daidzein, a dietary isoflavone, against glycerol-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) in male rats. The results demonstrated that daidzein pre-administration effectively improved kidney function, reduced kidney injury markers, enhanced antioxidant capacity, suppressed inflammation, and attenuated apoptosis.

Summary: This study investigated if using Cytosorb during high-flux dialysis could successfully eliminate myoglobin in patients with severe rhabdomyolysis. The results showed significant reduction of myoglobin levels with Cytosorb treatment, but the effect may be limited in patients with ongoing rhabdomyolysis. Prospective clinical trials are needed to further explore the benefits of this approach in preventing permanent kidney damage.

Summary: Rhabdomyolysis is a complex disease that can be caused by various factors, including congenital and acquired factors. Statin therapy is a common acquired factor. Recent studies suggest that serious complications such as rhabdomyolysis are rarely observed with statin therapy. Researchers recommend lower-dose statin therapy or combination therapy with other drugs to avoid side effects.
