Summary: The study reveals an increased expression of the sialylated glycan structure Sialyl-Lewis X (SLeX) in lung epithelium upon M. tuberculosis infection, accompanied by altered tissue transcriptomic signature. This suggests that glycosylation-involved molecular mechanisms may modulate host response to M. tuberculosis infection, potentially shaping TB disease outcome.

Summary: This study reports the use of metallopeptide-based scaffolds for sugar recognition and catalysis. The metallopeptide showed preference for specific carbohydrates and was able to remove antigens from the surface of leukemia cells. These metallopeptides may have potential therapeutic applications as artificial metalloglycosidases.

Summary: In this study, the authors investigated the glycan structures of Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) and the expression of Mucin 1 (MUC1) modified with sialylated core-2 O-glycans. They found that MUC1 in MEC samples contained alpha 2,3-linked sialic acid, while MUC1 in normal salivary glands (NSGs) did not. Further analysis revealed that C2GnT-1, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of these glycans, was expressed in MEC-affected regions but not in NSGs. These findings suggest that MUC1 containing these glycans could be a potential diagnostic marker for MEC.

Summary: Asthma is an allergic disease characterized by severe leukocyte infiltration in the lungs, which can be significantly suppressed by the anti-sLe(x) monoclonal antibody F2, leading to reduced eosinophil infiltration, proliferation, serum IgE levels, as well as levels of Th2 cytokines and chemokines. The study suggests that sLe(x) carbohydrate antigen could be a novel therapeutic target for allergic asthma.

Summary: The protein C1orf56 was found to be a SLeX-binding protein on capacitated spermatozoa, playing a potential role in the acrosome reaction following sperm-egg binding. Clinical study showed an association between C1orf56 expression in the acrosome-reacted population and fertilization rate.

Summary: The study assessed the impact of sLe(x) and sLe(a), as well as E-selectin ligand carbohydrates, on metastasis and prognosis in ccRCC.
Membrane expression of HECA-452-positive sLe(x)/sLe(a) glycans correlated with shortened progression-free and overall survival.
Expression of functional E-selectin ligand carbohydrates showed a more significant correlation with poor prognosis in ccRCC patients than HECA-452 positivity.

Summary: Cell-based therapies rely on targeted payload delivery and enhanced cell retention, with glycoengineering showing potential in enhancing recruitment at sites of injury. Engagement of blood neutrophils, activated at sites of injury, may further enhance recruitment of glycoengineered cellular therapeutics via secondary capture mechanisms.

Summary: Previously, it was demonstrated that liposome formulation decorated with a selectin ligand undergoes specific uptake by activated cells and causes antivascular effect in a tumor model. A microfluidic chip was used to study the interaction between liposomes and cells in hydrodynamic conditions, and it was found that liposome uptake decreased with increase in serum concentration. Analysis of liposome protein coronas revealed the enrichment of apolipoproteins and a decrease in bound immunoglobulins with increasing SiaLe(X) content.

Summary: Late diagnosis contributes to the low survival rate of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) due to unspecific symptoms and lack of reliable markers. Through glycoproteomic analysis, MFAP4 was identified as a potential biomarker in PDA tissues, showing higher expression compared to control tissues.

Summary: The study investigated the quantitative properties of peroxisome transfer in a microfluidic device, finding that the number of peroxisomes transferred through a 10 μm tunnel was smaller than that through a 4 μm tunnel. This suggests that the microfluidic device is capable of quantitatively controlling peroxisome transfer.

Summary: This study describes a method for generating transmitochondrial cybrids using a microfluidic device. The experiment successfully achieved mitochondrial transfer between HeLa cells and p(0)143B cells, resulting in cells containing specific mitochondria and nuclei. Selective culture and harvest of the cybrids were also successfully performed.
