Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the presence and concentration of salivary molecular pain biomarkers CGRP and BDNF during initial stages of orthodontic treatment and their correlation with subjective pain scales. The results showed that BDNF correlated with all subjective pain scales, indicating the need for further investigation.

Summary: The aim of this study was to measure the forces and moments during simulated initial orthodontic tooth movements using a new biomechanical test setup. The results showed that the medium thickness Sentalloy archwires generated higher forces and moments than the light archwires in all simulations. This suggests that reduced archwire dimensions should be chosen for the initial leveling of vertical malocclusions.

Summary: Dietary salt uptake and NFAT-5 play a role in osteoclast activity and orthodontic tooth movement, with high salt diet promoting periodontal bone loss and impaired OTM, while NFAT-5 deletion leads to increased osteoclast activity.

Summary: This study aimed to monitor the changes in IL-1 beta and VEGF levels in saliva during two years of orthodontic treatment, and found that these levels peaked at the stage of space closure. Additionally, both IL-1 beta and VEGF decreased during the finishing stage, but did not return to baseline levels.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effects of high-frequency mechanical vibration on tooth movement and root resorption. The results showed that the combination of high-frequency vibration with light force or optimal force significantly increased the amount of tooth movement. Additionally, high-frequency vibration did not cause root resorption.

Summary: By designing and validating a finite element (FE) model, a better understanding of the mechanical behavior of orthodontic aligners can be gained. The results show that the forces generated by the aligner are influenced by its thickness and rigidity.

Summary: Malocclusion, a major disease, affects 56% of oral and systemic health globally. Orthodontics is the primary method, but complications associated with long-term therapy exist. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy can shorten orthodontic treatment duration by 26% to 40%. This review evaluates the efficacy, mechanisms, clinical trials, and future developments of PBM therapy in orthodontics, providing evidence-based support for the research and development of light-related orthodontic tooth movement acceleration devices.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of artificial aging by thermocycling and mechanical loading on force/torque delivery by thermoplastic orthodontic aligners. Ten thermoformed aligners made of ZenduraTM thermoplastic polyurethane sheets were aged in deionized water for two weeks using either thermocycling alone or both thermocycling and mechanical loading. The force/torque delivered by the aligners on a plastic model's upper second premolar was measured before aging and after different periods of aging. The results showed that while pure thermocycling had no significant effect on force decay, both thermocycling and mechanical loading resulted in a significant decrease in force/torque after 2 days of aging, which was no longer significant after 14 days of aging. Therefore, the mechanical loading of aligners has a greater impact on force/torque generation than pure thermocycling.

Summary: Orthodontic tooth movement is a topic of interest for both medical and engineering communities. Previous studies focused on stress distribution and remodeling processes, but lacked a practical clinical decision support platform. This paper presents a simplified numerical model that bridges this gap and provides accurate clinical results, as demonstrated by comparison with real-world cases.
