Summary: New tunable aryl alkyl ionic liquids (TAAILs) based on imidazolium containing weakly coordinating anion [Ga(C2F5)(4)](-) were investigated for their viscosity, conductivity, and electrochemical stability. The gallate-TAAILs showed stability even at high electrochemical potentials and are considered promising candidates for electrolytes in electrochemical applications. More details can be found in the communication by B. Hoge, T. Strassner, et al. (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202102097).

Summary: Ultraviolet ozone flushing (UVO) is used to oxidize the NiOx hole-transport layer, activating the Ni3+ at the top of the NiOx film and enhancing its electrical properties and hole extraction ability. Sequential deposition of perovskites leads to the formation of residual PbI2 at the bottom interface, preventing direct contact between the NiOx film and the perovskite layer and avoiding NiOx-related chemical reactions.

Summary: The optical fluorescent pH sensors based on positively charged silica microparticles containing anionic pyranine molecules were developed using a modified Stober method, ensuring overly pH-sensitive nature of pyranine and long-term stability through silica shell coating. These cytocompatible ratiometric pH sensors can be individually observed and are suitable for pH sensing and tracking applications.

Summary: The double-shelled hollow PMo12-SiO2@N-C anode material achieves excellent lithium storage, with the N-C outer shell improving electronic conductivity and promoting dispersion of PMo12 clusters, and the SiO2 inner shell efficiently avoiding loss of active components. The hollow structure helps buffer volume expansion and accelerate Li+ diffusion during lithiation/delithiation.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of in-fjord substituted expanded helicenes and estimates their inversion barriers through state-of-the-art quantum calculations. The energetic profile of the inversions is found to be significantly influenced by the interplay of steric and attractive London dispersion interactions. Summary: A study found that stable pogo-stick complexes can be synthesized through a series of reactions, and their characteristics were confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. These complexes exhibited strong absorption in the near-infrared region. Theoretical calculations further elucidated the mechanism of these absorptions. Additionally, the complexes can react with other compounds to form new substances.

Summary: Six silver hexafluoroantimonate complexes containing 4'-(4'-substituted-phenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine compounds were prepared and characterized. These compounds exhibited interesting photoluminescence properties and showed higher antiproliferative activities compared to cisplatin against three human carcinoma cell lines. The DNA binding ability of the complexes was correlated with their anticancer activities, providing a potential rationale for designing terpyridine-based metal complexes with antitumor potential.

Summary: One concept to enhance the anticancer effects of conventional platinum-based antitumor drugs is to conjugate them with other biologically active agents. In this study, four new analogs of cisplatin were synthesized. It was found that the iodido complexes displayed higher potency than the chlorido complexes due to their enhanced hydrophobicity and cellular accumulation. These complexes also showed higher selectivity for tumor cells and overcame acquired resistance to cisplatin. Furthermore, the mechanism of action of these complexes was found to be inhibition of the tubulin kinesin Eg5, which is crucial for forming a functional mitotic spindle.
