Summary: A widely applicable approach to synthesize ketones, esters, and amides via the oxidative C-C bond cleavage of readily available alkyl aldehydes has been developed using green and abundant molecular oxygen as the oxidant, and base metals (cobalt and copper) as catalysts. This strategy can be extended to the one-pot synthesis of ketones from primary alcohols and alpha-ketoamides from aldehydes.

Summary: Four copper(II) complexes strongly interact with DNA through partial intercalation and cleave DNA through the generation of singlet oxygen (1O2). In vitro experiments show that these complexes exhibit significant anticancer activity and induce apoptosis in HeLa cells as demonstrated by AO/EB staining.

Summary: Antibiotics have led to the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria due to their misuse and abuse. Antibacterial peptides (AMPs) have shown promise as alternative drugs to antibiotics, as they possess broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and are less likely to cause resistance. However, their clinical application is limited by high cytotoxicity and low antibacterial efficiency. This study developed an antibacterial peptide with DNA cleavage function, which demonstrated excellent antibacterial activity, wound healing promotion, and anti-skin infection capability.

Summary: The study demonstrates that replacing Gly with β-Ala in the ATCUN structure can reactivate ROS production and increase oxidative cleavage activity towards DNA. Modifications with Lys residues play a role in enhancing DNA affinity and increasing nuclease activity. The β-Ala2 complexes exhibit higher cytotoxicity, possibly due to increased cellular uptake.

Summary: In this study, four novel Cu complexes with different geometries were synthesized, and their interactions with DNA were investigated. The Cu complexes containing quinoline and pyridine were found to destabilize the DNA structure through minor groove binding and intercalation, respectively. Among them, the Cu2 complex containing quinoline and morpholine exhibited the highest distortion and cleavage efficiency of DNA.

Summary: A protective pathway is identified in the active sites of copper-dependent lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs), which prevents oxidative damage during uncoupled turnover. This pathway involves the formation of transient high-valent intermediates and ferromagnetically coupled copper-tyrosyl radical pairs.

Summary: In this study, the CRISPR/Cas12a system was utilized as a direct sensing system for Mn2+ detection in living cells. It was found that Mn2+ can accelerate the cleavage kinetics of Cas12a, allowing for robust detection of Mn2+ in complex biological samples and in the cytoplasm of living cells. The system was also applied to study the cytotoxicity of Mn2+ in nerve cells.

Summary: The reaction mechanism underlying the green synthesis of glutaric acid was studied using joint test technology and verified through density functional theory calculations. A quantitative analysis method for glutaric acid was established using infrared spectroscopy and HPLC, showing good linear correlation between the two methods in the range of 0.01 to 0.25 g mL(-1). The analysis results of the two methods were consistent as the reaction progressed.

Summary: The functionalization of etheric C-O bonds via C-O bond cleavage is a promising method for the synthesis of C-C and C-X bonds. However, the enantioselective version of these reactions, mainly involving C(sp(3))-O bond cleavage, is highly challenging. Here, we present a copper-catalyzed asymmetric cascade cyclization, which allows for the efficient and enantioselective synthesis of chromeno[3,4-c]pyrroles with a triaryl oxa-quaternary carbon stereocenter. Notably, this protocol represents the first example of [1,2]-Stevens-type rearrangement via C(sp(2))-O bond cleavage and [1,2]-aryl migration reactions via vinyl cations.

Summary: In this study, electroreductive ring-opening carboxylation of cycloketone oxime esters with atmospheric carbon dioxide was reported. The reaction proceeded under simple constant current conditions in an undivided cell, using glassy carbon as the cathode and magnesium as the sacrificial anode, resulting in moderate to good yields of substituted gamma- and delta-cyanocarboxylic acids. Electrochemically generated cyanoalkyl radicals and cyanoalkyl anion were proposed as the key intermediates.

Summary: This study discovered three active prokaryotic Argonautes (pAgos) with about 50% sequence identity to KmAgo, which have typical DNA-guided DNA target cleavage ability. Among them, RsuAgo from Rummeliibacillus suwonensis was mainly explored for its ability to cleave both DNA and RNA targets, especially with short guide DNAs in the range of 16-20 nt. RsuAgo-mediated RNA target cleavage showed a preference for a guide strand with a 5'-terminal A residue. Furthermore, RsuAgo was found to be able to cleave double-stranded DNA in a low-salt buffer at 37 degrees C, providing a new tool for DNA and RNA manipulation at moderate temperatures.
