NdI3 reacted with 1 or 8/6 equiv. of [PhNMg(thf)], in thf or pyridine, to afford the imido Clusters [Nd-4(NPh)(n)I-4(thf)(n)] (n = 3, 4) or [Nd-6(NPh)(8)I-2(py)(6)], which display a cubane or rhombododecahedron core structure, respectively. In contrast, the tetranuclear U-IV derivative [U-4(NPh)(6)I-4(PY)(6)] was obtained from the reaction Of UI3(py)(4) with [PhNMg(thf)]. The crystal Structures of these Clusters are presented.
