Summary: In non-high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukaemia patients, replacing doxorubicin/cytarabine with vincristine/asparaginase during some delayed-intensification blocks has effectively reduced toxicity and decreased hospital admissions for fever, allowing for earlier completion of treatment phase without compromising outcomes.

Summary: The study found that the risk of significant bleeding associated with PEG placement was minimal in patients on uninterrupted periprocedural antithrombotic therapy. There were only a few cases of significant bleeding events and PEG-related mortality in the study cohort.

Summary: This study evaluated the rate of postoperative bleeding and other surgical complications in mastectomy between ultrasonic scissors and traditional electrocautery. The results showed that the rate of postoperative bleeding complications was lower in patients operated with ultrasonic scissors, and the rate of surgical site infections was similar between the two instruments. Additionally, the rate of skin flap necrosis was also lower in the ultrasonic scissors group.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 15 patients over 90 years of age who underwent CT-guided posterior stabilization for unstable odontoid type II fractures, showing that the surgical treatment is safe and effective with low complications and mortality rates. The average follow-up time was 36 months.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence of invasive fungal infections and other infectious complications in patients with acute myeloid leukaemia receiving venetoclax and hypomethylating agent therapy. The results showed a low incidence of IFIs, but an increase in bacterial infections and hospital admissions due to neutropenic fever.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal timing of colonoscopy for acute lower GI bleeding and factors that benefit patients. The results showed that early colonoscopy identified recent bleeding better and reduced hospital stay, but it also carried an increased risk of rebleeding within 30 days. Early colonoscopy was particularly beneficial for patients with a shock index >= 1 or poor performance status at presentation.

Summary: This study of 1,217 patients found that those with previous acute diverticulitis were younger with a higher family history of diverticular disease, while those with previous diverticular bleeding had a higher prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease compared to uncomplicated diverticular disease and diverticulitis. These distinct features could help improve the assessment of risk factors for diverticular complications.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the use of oral anti-HCV Direct Acting Antivirals (DAA) treatment and the occurrence of hematological malignancies (HM) in patients with chronic HCV infection. The results showed that the incidence of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) appeared to be higher after DAA treatments, especially in severe HCV patients, including those with cirrhosis and/or liver transplants.

Summary: The incidence of AOM in children under 16 years old in Germany has decreased following the introduction of PCV13, with significant declines in all age groups. However, there has been an increase in complicated AOM cases while the incidence of AOM-related surgical procedures remained constant.

Summary: Despite advancements in hematopoietic stem cell transplant techniques, the risk of neurological complications remains significant, especially for children and adolescents. The impact of neurotoxic drugs, radiotherapy, and neurological complications on the developing brain is still not fully understood. Further research is needed to determine the sensitivity of the nervous system to toxic insults and the long-term effects of these complications on children and adolescents.

Summary: Bleeding complications post ACS, particularly gastrointestinal bleeding, were frequent in this study. Older age, lower baseline hemoglobin, hypertension, and heart failure were predictive factors for bleeding events. Importantly, bleeding independently predicted increased mortality.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of treatment choice on survival, transfusion needs, and hospitalizations in patients over 64 years old with newly diagnosed AML. Retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with AML between 2017 and 2020 in a regional healthcare network in Switzerland revealed that patients in the HMA + VEN treatment group had significantly better overall survival, shorter hospital stays, and lower transfusion needs.
