Summary: This meta-analysis identified and quantified a range of potential adverse effects associated with bisphosphonate drugs in breast cancer patients, most of which are clinically recognized. The study showed that bisphosphonate drugs may lead to various adverse effects, but there was little variation in side effects between patients of different ages, menopausal status, cancer types, and concurrent breast cancer therapies.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of estrogen therapy on breast cancer mortality risk in women receiving adjuvant endocrine treatment. The results suggest that concurrent use of estrogen therapy with endocrine treatment, either in the short term or long term, does not significantly increase the risk of breast cancer mortality.

Summary: The combined analysis of SOFT-TEXT compared the outcomes of 4,690 premenopausal women with ER/PgR+ early breast cancer randomly assigned to exemestane + OFS or tamoxifen + OFS. Exemestane + OFS showed significant improvement in DFS and DRFI, but not overall survival, compared to tamoxifen + OFS. This study provides guidance for selecting patients who may benefit from exemestane over tamoxifen in the setting of OFS.

Summary: GH therapy has shown excellent short-term safety, but long-term potential side effects remain a concern. Recent observational studies in different cohorts of young adult patients have yielded conflicting results, focusing on the risks of cancer, cardio and cerebrovascular diseases, and diabetes associated with GH therapy.

Summary: Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6 inhibitors have revolutionized the treatment landscape of hormone receptor-positive breast cancers. However, a significant portion of patients develop resistance to these inhibitors, making it challenging for clinicians to choose the next treatment option. Recent studies have used transcriptomic analysis to identify biomarkers that could potentially guide the selection of subsequent therapies.

Summary: Surface plasmon resonance excitation enhances light absorption and hot electron generation. This has attracted significant attention in the biomedical field for applications such as biomolecule identification, drug synthesis and release, and tumor elimination. The review highlights recent developments in hot-electron dynamics for medical diagnosis and therapy, with a focus on fully integrated device techniques. The underlying mechanisms, experimental and theoretical studies, and challenges in biomedical engineering based on hot-electron dynamics are also discussed.

Summary: This study evaluated the predictive effect of lactate and base excess (BE) values in the cord arterial blood gas and the 6th hour of life venous blood gas analysis on clinical sepsis in newborns. The results showed that a venous lactate value above 2 mMol/L at postnatal 6th-hour venous blood gas was associated with clinical sepsis. A cutoff value of 3.38 mMol/L could indicate early-onset clinical sepsis.

Summary: This article presents a predictive model for assessing fatigue among breast cancer survivors. By collecting clinical data from patients, the researchers identified risk factors associated with severe fatigue and developed a predictive model. This is important for early management of fatigue, correcting modifiable risk factors, and providing more accurate monitoring and education for patients at risk of severe post-treatment fatigue.

Summary: McCune-Albright syndrome with growth hormone excess and precocious puberty is more common in girls. Patients exhibit accelerated linear growth and advanced skeletal age, and early control of both conditions helps reduce growth velocity and stabilize bone age. Diagnosing growth hormone excess in pediatric patients does not negatively impact predicted adult height.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) in patients with newly diagnosed peripheral artery disease (PAD) and evaluate its impact on 5-year mortality. The results showed that patients receiving GDMT had a lower all-cause mortality compared to the non-GDMT group, and the mortality rate decreased as the number of guideline-recommended drugs increased.

Summary: Objective: The study aimed to explore the sex differences in growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-I) patterns, clinical features, and disease control in patients with controlled acromegaly. The results showed that postmenopausal females with controlled acromegaly exhibited higher GH levels than males despite comparable IGF-I levels, which also translated into impaired metabolic health and well-being.

The findings indicated that GDM was associated with an increased risk of depression and anxiety disorders, and subsequent diabetes played a significant role in future psychiatric morbidity risk.

Summary: This study investigated the association between maternal cortisol levels in the third trimester of pregnancy and offspring blood pressure (OBP). The results showed negative associations between maternal cortisol levels and OBP, specifically in boys. Summary: This study explores the effects of maternal polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and metformin therapy on fetal growth. The results indicate that intrauterine metformin exposure has an impact on the birth anthropometrics of infants born to women with PCOS, particularly in terms of head circumference. The study also suggests that maternal factors such as pre-pregnancy body mass index and PCOS phenotype may modify the effects of metformin. The study is rated 8 out of 10 for its importance.
