Summary: This study aimed to assess measures of elasticity of the ascending aorta (AAo) in fetuses with tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) and explore the association with neonatal aortic dilation. The results showed that AAo elasticity was decreased in fetuses with ToF, and fetal AAo elasticity was independently associated with neonatal aortic annular dilation.

Summary: This study aimed to describe aortic stiffness using MRI in patients with ascending thoracic aorta aneurysm and different aortic valve types. The results showed that patients had larger aortic diameters but stiffness indices were associated with age, blood pressure, and diameter. There were differences between TAV-ATAA and BAV groups compared to controls.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relative contributions of tissue-innate defects versus hemodynamics to the progression of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) aortopathy. The results showed that age and AS severity in BAV patients were directly associated with an increase in pulse wave velocity (PWV).

Summary: This study explored the relationship between pulmonary regurgitation and quality of life and health status in adults with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), and found that with advancing age, patients reported more problems in mobility and pain or discomfort. Factors associated with superior patient-reported outcomes include race, syndrome, employment, and left ventricular function, while being asymptomatic was found to have the greatest impact on quality of life and health status.

Summary: Tricuspid regurgitation is a significant finding in patients who have undergone repair for tetralogy of Fallot, and it can have primary or secondary causes. Moderate or severe tricuspid regurgitation is associated with a higher occurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmias in these patients. The optimal timing for tricuspid valve intervention during pulmonary valve replacement in repaired tetralogy of Fallot patients remains uncertain.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the impact of hypoplastic pulmonary arteries (hPA) on outcomes in neonates with symptomatic tetralogy of Fallot (sTOF), and measure the impact of management strategy on pulmonary artery (PA) growth. The study included 542 neonates and found that the presence of hPA did not increase the hazard of mortality or reintervention after definitive repair, and the hPA cohort showed superior PA growth.

Summary: Congenital heart defects refer to structural abnormalities of the heart or blood vessels present at birth, affecting approximately 1% of newborns worldwide. Tetralogy of Fallot is the most common cyanotic congenital heart abnormality, accounting for 5-10% of all congenital cardiac defects. While some cases of TOF are associated with known diseases or chromosomal abnormalities, the majority are non-syndromic and have unknown causes.

Summary: This study investigated the plasma metabolic profiles to identify key metabolites for early diagnosis of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a common congenital heart disease. The researchers found significant metabolic differences between TOF patients and normal controls, specifically in nicotinamide and purine metabolism pathways. The study suggests that plasma FAD could serve as a highly valuable biomarker for differentiating TOF from normal. These findings contribute to the development of reliable biomarkers and improving early screening for TOF.

Summary: This study aims to identify pulse wave features for a more accurate estimation of carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) from a single radial pulse wave measurement. The results show that the amplitude ratio of the diastolic peak to the notch of the radial pulse waveform is correlated with cfPWV and this correlation may not be dependent on wave reflection.

Summary: In this study involving 1006 PA patients and 983 EH patients, it was found that haPWV is more sensitive than baPWV in detecting aldosterone-induced arterial stiffness. Results indicated that PA patients had significantly higher baPWV compared to EH patients.

Summary: In this multicenter comparison of staged repair (SR) and primary repair (PR) for neonates with symptomatic tetralogy of Fallot (sTOF), early mortality and neonatal morbidity were lower in the SR group, while cumulative morbidity and reinterventions favored the PR group, suggesting potential benefits to each strategy.

Summary: The study aimed to determine whether pulmonary valve replacement (PVR) is associated with improved survival and freedom from sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF). The results showed that patients who received PVR had a lower risk of death or sustained VT compared to those who did not receive PVR.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of preoperative pulse oximeter oxygen saturation (SpO(2)) on postoperative prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) in children with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The results demonstrated that lower preoperative SpO(2) was an independent risk factor for PMV, leading to longer mechanical ventilation time, length of intensive care unit stay, postoperative hospital stay, overall hospital stay, and higher hospitalization cost.

Summary: A new method based on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) was proposed to optimize patch size, shape, and location in patients with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), achieving a high accuracy in patch prediction through fivefold cross-validation (CV) and improving the clinical outcomes, suggesting the potential of reducing misjudgment rate during surgery.

Summary: The study evaluated the long-term outcomes of a staged approach for symptomatic young infants with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), with initial shunt palliation followed by complete repair. The results showed low mortality but high rates of reinterventions at long-term follow-up. Therefore, careful consideration should be given when determining the management strategy for congenital heart disease.

Summary: This study found that half of infants have congenital heart disease (CCHD) detected prenatally. Factors associated with delayed detection include lack of clinical recognition of symptoms, referral to higher-level facilities after discharge, and failure to confirm diagnosis through echocardiography. It is recommended to enhance advanced knowledge and echocardiographic techniques, and to incorporate pulse oximetry and telemedicine into the diagnostic algorithm.
