Summary: This study reviewed the survival and echocardiographic findings after valve surgery for severe CaHD. Survival was significantly higher in patients who underwent combined tricuspid valve replacement (TVR) and pulmonary valve replacement (PVR) compared with those who only had TVR or TVR with pulmonary valvotomy (no PVR). Bioprosthetic valves showed good durability. Preoperative echocardiography may underestimate pulmonary pathology. Combined TVR and PVR should be considered for most patients.

Summary: Patients with multiple native valvular heart disease are more common in women, have more severe heart failure and comorbidities, higher left atrial volumes and pulmonary pressures, lower survival rates, and higher rates of heart failure occurrence.

Summary: Ventricular assist devices have significantly reduced mortality in children with end-stage heart failure awaiting transplant. Valve abnormalities, such as regurgitation, can impact the efficacy of hemodynamic support provided by these devices, so clinicians should carefully assess and repair any valve abnormalities in order to effectively support this diverse population.

Summary: The study compared clinical features and prognosis of Chinese elderly patients with senile degenerative valvular heart disease by gender. Men were more likely to have aortic disease, while women were more likely to have mitral disease. Differences in disease distribution, severity, clinical characteristics, and interventions were observed between men and women.

Summary: This study focused on investigating the outcome and predictor of recurrent atrial tachyarrhythmia after catheter ablation in patients with prior cardiac surgery for valvular heart disease (VHD) who presented with atrial flutter (AFL). Concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF) was found to be associated with a higher recurrence of typical AFL, while chronic kidney disease (CKD) and left atrial diameter (LAD) were identified as independent predictors of recurrence after AFL ablation in this patient population.

Summary: Patients with neuroendocrine tumors and carcinoid heart disease (CHD) may require valve replacement surgery. The severity of right ventricular dilatation before surgery is associated with higher mortality within one year, suggesting the possibility of earlier intervention.

Summary: Valvular heart disease (VHD) is a growing epidemic that affects millions of people globally and has a significant impact on healthcare systems. However, it has not received sufficient attention from the public and policymakers. Despite advancements in understanding and treatment, VHD is often underdiagnosed, detected late, and undertreated, leading to inequality in access to care and limited prevention options. This review article discusses the gaps in VHD management and proposes potential actions for improving patient outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the frequency of adverse cardiac events in pregnant women with moderate or severe regurgitant valve lesions. Results indicated that women with multivalve disease had the highest rate of adverse events, while those with aortic regurgitation and pulmonary regurgitation were at lower risk.

Summary: Rheumatic heart disease is prevalent in developing countries and mainly affects the mitral and aortic valves. This case presents a rare occurrence of severe pulmonary valve contracture and regurgitation in a patient with rheumatic right-sided valve disease. Surgical valvular reconstruction with a bovine pericardial patch was successfully performed.

Summary: Cardiac surgery with tricuspid valve and potentially pulmonic valve replacement is currently the most effective treatment strategy for carcinoid heart disease. A multidisciplinary team is required for the management, and aggressive management before and after surgery is critical. Percutaneous valve repair may be a potential option in the future.

Summary: Acute heart failure is commonly seen in patients with atrial fibrillation and acute ischemic myocarditis, presenting with symptoms such as dyspnea, pulmonary rales, and agitation. Treatment should involve prompt administration of diuretics and vasodilators to alleviate symptoms.

Summary: Valvular heart disease (VHD) is a common condition that poses challenges in diagnosis and management. Guidelines have been developed by various organizations to provide optimal care for patients with VHD. This review compares and highlights the consistencies, discrepancies, and research gaps between the guidelines provided by the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, European Society of Cardiology, and European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
