Traceability and authenticity of olive oils have become a major instrument to guarantee the consumer's protection. Recently, determination of adulteration of olive oils is based on the analysis of simple sequence repeats. In this study, we evaluate the feasibility of identifying above cultivars and the derived oils by the analysis of SSR markers. To this purpose, 22 virgin olive oils were prepared in the laboratory and DNA was extracted using a commercial kit, and 8 SSR markers were analyzed. The obtained results indicated that the comparison of the genetic profile of DNA extracted from oil and leaves of the cultivars studied concluded different genetic profiles in some cultivars when studied for their genome as well as for their oils. These additional alleles in oil's profile appear as minor peaks can be originating from the pollinators and which are present in the genome of the seed embryo. Hierarchical classification of varieties based on similarity measures and clustering was globally inconsistent with the grouping of varieties by end use and the geographical origin. Finally, we set up a categorization means to discriminate all the types of oil among them with the minimum of markers (three markers).

Multiple linear regression models to simulate spore yields of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens BS13 through optimization of medium composition

Fakher Kamoun, Frederic Weekers, Rayda Ben Ayed, Sondes Mechri, Fadoua Jabeur, Philippe Thonart, Bassem Jaouadi

Summary: This study aims to optimize a low-cost fermentation medium for improving the sporulation yield of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain BS13, a food spoilage spore-forming bacterium. The results showed that specific carbon and energy sources and nitrogen sources, as well as a combination of CaCl2, MgSO4, and MnSO4, significantly enhanced spore production. The optimized medium was successfully validated in a large-scale fermentor, resulting in a significant increase in spore yield.

Immune checkpoint CD155 promoter methylation profiling reveals cancer-associated behaviors within breast neoplasia

Hana Triki, Ken Declerck, Slim Charfi, Wala Ben Kridis, Kais Chaabane, Sawssan Ben Halima, Tahya Sellami, Ahmed Rebai, Wim Vanden Berghe, Boutheina Cherif

Summary: Our study reveals that CD155 promoter methylation is significantly associated with clinical-pathological features, prognosis, and immune infiltration in breast cancer. Low CD155 methylation rates are correlated with better prognosis, suggesting CD155 methylation profile may serve as a potential biomarker for breast cancer monitoring.

Summary: This study established the correlations and relationships of nine traits of pistachio kernels. PCA, Bayesian Networks method, and Network Meta-Analysis were applied to evaluate the data. The results showed high similarity between pistachio varieties and the ability to separate them into four distinct groups. The comparison between varieties revealed significant similarity between the 'KERMAN' accession and the Tunisian genotype 'ELGUETAR'. The findings also demonstrated the interdependencies between morphological parameters and relationships between studied factors through heat maps.

Summary: This study assessed cases of SARS-CoV-2 reinfection in healthcare workers in Tunisia. The results confirmed reinfection in all 4 cases, with symptoms being milder or more severe in the second infection. Despite the presence of antibodies in 3 of the patients, reinfection still occurred. This highlights the importance of vaccination and regular monitoring of immune status in individuals exposed to different variants of SARS-CoV-2.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the influence of physical activity on DNA methylation changes of the RANKL promoter region and assess the effect of aerobic and strength training on RANKL DNA methylation in Tunisian-North African adults. The results showed that active adults had significantly higher methylation levels in the RANKL promoter region compared to sedentary adults. After the intervention, both the trained and untrained groups exhibited increased methylation levels in the RANKL promoter region. The trained group also showed improvements in various physical parameters.
