Summary: In this study, the mean pore size of MF membranes was optimized to maximize productivity and guarantee a high removal rate. The near DOM MF with an optimum mean pore size larger than but close to dissolved organic matter (DOM) was proposed for separating pathogenic protozoa. The results showed that an MF membrane with a 0.8 μm mean pore size had higher water fluxes and maintained a removal rate at 3-4 log compared to a 0.45 μm MF membrane.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to characterize a gene named EAH 00033530 identified by RNAseq analysis of sporulating Eimeria acervulina oocysts and its encoded protein. The gene showed peak expression during early sporulation and was found to be localized to oocyst and sporocyst walls. It may be involved in oocyst development.

Summary: Research on classical psychedelics and entactogen has led to a revival in the search for more effective drugs to treat psychiatric, neurological, and peripheral disorders. These drugs interact with serotonergic receptors and may have safety and toxicity risks that need to be addressed through non-clinical testing. The goal is to develop safer and more effective psychedelics for clinical use.

Summary: RiPPs are a diverse class of natural products, with genome mining playing a key role in discovering novel classes. Challenges include the lack of universal genetic markers and the need for integration with other omics data for more comprehensive pipelines. Different methods prioritize biosynthetic gene clusters or use machine-learning classifiers to identify RiPP precursors.

Summary: This article reports on two cases of neurenteric cyst in the ventral craniovertebral junction, managed using different treatment strategies. Complete surgical removal was successful in one case, while partial removal with cysto-subarachnoid shunt and stabilization was performed in the other case, resulting in no recurrence or new lesions within ten years.

Summary: Collections of natural extracts have the potential to discover novel natural products, but the prioritization of extracts remains challenging. Inventa is a computational tool that considers mass spectrometry data, spectral annotation, and literature reports to highlight the structural novelty potential within extracts. Application of Inventa to plants from the Celastraceae family identified the roots extract of Pristimera indica as a promising source of potentially novel compounds.

Summary: Additive manufacturing with steel allows for new manufacturing possibilities in terms of individual parts and complex supply chains. The direct energy deposition process (DED-arc), also known as wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), is well-suited for manufacturing large structures with design freedom. The study analyzes different parameter sets to identify tolerance ranges for weld bead overlap, which vary between 15% and 50% depending on the parameter set and weld bead geometry. Additionally, the study finds that decreasing wire feed results in smoother surface of the last welded layer. These findings have implications for manufacturing complex parts with variable wall thickness.

Summary: This study explores the use of natural allicin and alcoholic garlic extract as disinfectants to control avian coccidiosis. The findings show that allicin and alcoholic garlic extract, at specific concentrations, can significantly reduce the number and infectivity of coccidia oocysts and cause damage to the oocyst structure. Additionally, compared to chemical disinfectants, allicin and alcoholic garlic extract are more environmentally friendly in poultry farms.

Summary: Global transcriptional differences across lobular units in the liver remain unknown. Here the authors perform spatial transcriptomics of liver tissue to delineate transcriptional differences in physical space, confirm lobular zonation along transcriptional gradients and suggest the presence of previously uncharacterized structures within liver tissue.
