Summary: Sotos syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by NSD1 gene haploinsufficiency, with some patients experiencing epilepsy, including drug-resistant seizures. A 47-year-old female patient with Sotos syndrome had focal-onset seizures in the left temporal lobe, left-side hippocampal atrophy, and cognitive impairment. After undergoing left-side temporal lobe resection, the patient achieved complete awake seizure control and significant improvement in quality-of-life during the 3-year follow-up. Resective surgeries may be beneficial for improving seizure control and quality of life in selected patients with Sotos syndrome.

Summary: In this pilot study, we used numerical methods to define the normative structure of resting-state EEG (rsEEG) in 37 healthy subjects aged 10-74. We employed a double-banana bipolar montage and visually identified artifact-free epochs of 120-200 s, which were divided into 1 s windows with a 10% overlap. By computationally analyzing the power spectrum, coherence, and other parameters, we characterized the rsEEG in different age groups and brain lobes. Importantly, we demonstrated the feasibility of a normative rsEEG structure obtained using a double-banana montage.

Emotions involve physiological changes in various systems, as well as conscious experiences embedded in memory. The cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical circuit, limbic system, and prefrontal circuit are crucial in the perception, thought, and memory of emotions. This review focuses on the anatomy and physiology of these brain structures and their implications for psychiatric pathologies and deep brain stimulation (DBS) treatment outcomes.
