Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of three diatomaceous earth formulations against various stored-product beetle species. The results showed that the Silicid formulation provided complete control of the major stored-product insect species, and offspring production was only observed in primary colonizers.

Summary: This paper conducted radioactivity analyses and radiological risk estimation for 73 DE samples. The activity concentration of Ra-226, Th-232, and K-40 was found to be within the range of (5-164) Bq kg(-1), (2-120) Bq kg(-1), and (19-1480) Bq kg(-1) respectively. The absorbed gamma doses ranged from (8-172) nGy h(-1). The total annual effective dose for workers ranged from (0.011-0.217) mSv. Results indicate no specific radiation risk for workers and the public.

Summary: In Ghana, major stored product insect pests of maize and rice are controlled using expensive synthetic insecticides. However, lack of technical know-how in their application can affect worker safety and lead to toxic residues in the end product. This study tested three improved diatomaceous earths as alternatives to synthetic insecticides for controlling storage pests in Ghana. The results showed that different diatomaceous earths had varying levels of toxicity against different pests and at different dosages.

Summary: The study evaluated the insecticidal efficacy of diatomaceous earth, spinosad, and Trichoderma harzianum against Callosobruchus maculatus and Callosobruchus chinensis on cowpea seeds. Results showed that diatomaceous earth had superior insecticidal effects compared to spinosad and Trichoderma harzianum. The combination of these three agents achieved complete adult mortality, reduced progeny production, and protected cowpea seeds from damage caused by the insects.

Summary: In the laboratory tests, InsectoSec showed the best effectiveness towards adult insects, followed by Fossil Shield and Diatomeenerde. The highest dosages of the three DEs showed similar effectiveness, but InsectoSec and Fossil Shield were more effective than Diatomeenerde at lower dosages. Treated grains with InsectoSec, Fossil Shield, and Diatomeenerde all had reduced progeny of C. maculatus compared to the untreated control, with dosage having no effect on the number of progeny.
