Summary: Land spreading of olive mill wastewater can lead to a slight increase in soil water repellency in the short term, but this effect diminishes after two weeks, with the organic compounds in the wastewater playing a significant role in influencing soil water repellency. Overall, the practice of OMW land spreading did not significantly change soil water repellency, especially in loam or silty clay loam soil compared to sandy loam texture, and is more viable in spring or autumn to reduce the risk of groundwater contamination.

Summary: In the production of extra virgin olive oil, the time between olive harvesting and milling must be carefully controlled to preserve oil quality. Short-term cold storage after cooling can slow metabolic processes, reduce the formation of undesirable compounds, and promote oxidation, potentially modulating the aroma profile of the produced olive oil.

Summary: In this study, flaxseed oil nanoemulsions were prepared using flaxseed oil as the embedding material and flaxseed gum as the sole emulsifier. The effects of storage temperature, pH, and NaCl concentration on the stability of the nanoemulsions were investigated. The results showed that temperature significantly influenced the stability, and higher temperatures resulted in decreased stability. The nanoemulsions were relatively stable at pH 5 and 7, but showed poor stability at pH 3 and alkaline conditions. Increasing ionic strength led to unstable aggregation. Overall, the stability of the flaxseed oil nanoemulsion was better at 4 degrees C, pH 5-7, and NaCl <200 mmol/L. These findings provide valuable information for the design and preparation of stable delivery systems for flaxseed oil in various industries.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term effects of saturated and unsaturated fatty acid sources on the rumen microbiome of dairy cows. Results showed that supplementation of 3% dry matter lipid over 63 days did not have major impacts on the global bacterial community structure. Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were the dominant phyla in the rumen microbiota.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of adding extra virgin olive oil on the physicochemical properties and microstructure of surimi gels subjected to ultrasound-assisted water-bath heating. The results showed that ultrasonic heating promoted protein unfolding and formation of non-covalent bonds, improving gel strength. However, high oil content weakened protein-protein interaction and had poor microstructures. The study highlights the importance of choosing suitable oil concentration for ultrasound-assisted treatments of surimi products.

Summary: Filtration using cotton filters and cellulose filter press significantly reduced bacteria and fungi in freshly produced monocultivar extra virgin olive oils. The yeast content was also reduced in oil samples filtered with either method. However, yeast that passed through the cellulose filter press did not survive in the oil after storage. Overall, the health benefits of compounds in the oil were lower when filtered with cellulose filter press compared to the control.

Summary: Sarcopenia, initially defined as muscle loss in elderly by Irwin Rosenberg in 1988, has now evolved to encompass not only muscle mass loss but also strength and physical performance decline in consensus papers. In CKD, sarcopenia is prevalent not just due to aging, but also accelerated protein breakdown from the disease and dialysis, associated with worse clinical outcomes.
