Summary: Genome-scale metabolomics analysis is widely used for pathway and function discovery. However, the low identification coverage of metabolites has hindered the potential of mass spectrometry-based technologies. In this study, a deep metabolomics analysis strategy was adopted to improve identification coverage by integrating advanced algorithms and expanded reference databases. Experimental and in silico reference spectra were used for structural annotation, and structural motif search and metabolite association network were used for further characterization. Untargeted metabolomics analysis on 150 rice cultivars resulted in the annotation of 1939 out of 4491 metabolite features, revealing differential accumulation patterns of flavonoids between indica and japonica cultivars and characterizing closely-related flavonolignans.

Summary: Feature selection plays a crucial role in machine learning and pattern recognition by selecting informative features from the original dataset. Supervised feature selection outperforms unsupervised feature selection in the presence of label information. However, it is challenging for supervised feature selection methods to select relevant features when there is a small number of labeled data and a large number of unlabeled data.

Summary: This study assessed drought conditions in Cambodia using MODIS data, and found that the drought areas were concentrated in the country's central plains, especially in 2016. Approximately 31.3% of rice-growing area was affected by severe drought in that year. The study also calculated the drought probability for the entire study period and identified 63 and 17 districts associated with droughts in the dry and wet seasons respectively.

Summary: Urban areas significantly contribute to human exposure to air pollution. While traditional urban air quality prediction models have used principal component analysis (PCA) and regression algorithms, recent research suggests that considering local emissions from building infrastructure can enhance model performance.

Summary: Developing drought-resistant rice is crucial for improving field productivity. Wild relatives of rice have potential traits for drought resistance. This study identified Oryza glumaepatula as a promising source for drought resistance. Multiple genomic loci related to drought resistance traits were detected through whole-genome resequencing and variant calling. These findings provide valuable information for introgressing drought tolerance into O. sativa backgrounds.

Summary: This study compared normal cultivated rice and deepwater rice and found complex genome changes in the region containing SK genes. The study also identified four new SK-like genes (SKL genes) in normal cultivated rice, but these genes were not expressed during submergence except for SKL3.

Summary: Soils pollution with heavy metals (HMs) is a serious concern, and this study focused on the remediation of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb)-contaminated soils using chemical and physical techniques. The application of stabilizers such as calcium carbonate, dolomite, zeolite, and steel slag significantly reduced the uptake of Cd and Pb by Chinese cabbage plants. These stabilizers also decreased the exchangeable and carbonates bound fractions of Cd and Pb in the soil. The results demonstrated that in-situ chemical remediation techniques showed promising and long-lasting results.

Summary: The concentration of nickel in agricultural soil is higher in tropical regions compared to temperate regions, leading to lower bioavailability of nickel in tropical paddy soils. This is also reflected in the lower concentration of nickel in rice grains from tropical regions. The distribution and mobility of nickel in the basalt-paddy soil-rice plant continuum are influenced by climate conditions.
