Summary: This study explored how daily fluctuations in children's pain intensity, as perceived by parents, moderated the impact of parental catastrophic thoughts on daily parental distress and goals regarding their child's pain. Results showed that high levels of perceived child pain intensity exacerbated parental distress, especially for those with high levels of catastrophic thinking. Perceived child pain intensity also influenced parental endorsement of pain control and activity engagement goals, highlighting the complexity of parental responses to their child's pain.

Summary: This study compared daily well-being and perceived stigmatization in individuals with clearly defined symptoms and underlying pathophysiology (RA) and individuals with less well understood symptoms and pathophysiology (FM), finding that FM patients and those with both diagnoses reported worse daily well-being. Additionally, there was more perceived stigma in FM patients compared to RA patients.

Summary: Chronic low back pain has a negative impact on daily functioning, and the study found that pain coping strategies can moderate this impact. Pain rumination strengthens the link between pain intensity and interference, while pain reappraisal and distraction weaken it.

Summary: We demonstrated the role of neutrophils in fibromyalgia by using a back-translational approach in mice. Adoptive transfer of neutrophils from mice with chronic widespread pain or patients with fibromyalgia can induce mechanical pain in recipient mice, sensitize spinal cord neurons, and cause changes in the expression of neutrophil proteins that lead to neutrophil infiltration into dorsal root ganglia. These findings suggest an immunological basis for chronic widespread pain in fibromyalgia mediated by neutrophils.

Summary: According to the International Association for the Study of Pain, chronic pain refers to an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience linked with actual or potential tissue damage. There are different types of pain, including nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociplastic pain. This narrative review examines the characteristics of drugs used for each type of pain, following guidelines, and their effects on individuals with comorbidities to minimize severe adverse events.

Summary: Although the prevalence of chronic pain in developed countries is approximately 30%, there is a lack of data from Latin America. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of chronic noncancer pain (CNCP), fibromyalgia (FM), and neuropathic pain (NP) in Chile. The results showed a CNCP prevalence of 34.7%, FM prevalence of 3.3%, and NP prevalence of 12%. Female sex, fewer school years, and depressive symptoms were associated with FM and NP. The findings suggest that despite genetic and environmental differences, the risk factors for CNCP remain stable.

Summary: This study found that patients with fibromyalgia have increased negative affect instability and reduced heart rate variability compared to healthy controls. The results also showed an inverse relationship between HRV and NA instability, and higher NA instability was associated with increased pain disability in patients.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of direct-acting antiviral drugs (DAA) therapy on fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). The results showed that CHC patients were more likely to develop FM and implementation of DAA therapy might improve FM symptoms in these patients.

Summary: The study found that greater loneliness during the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with higher pain catastrophizing 1 year later, with the severity of depression after the pandemic mediating this association. This highlights the importance of understanding the temporal associations among loneliness, depression, and catastrophizing for future treatment interventions.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between pain intensity, pain interference, and activities of daily living in individuals with fibromyalgia, and found that anxiety and depressive symptoms mediated this relationship. Older patients reported lower levels of pain intensity and distress compared to younger patients.

Summary: This study explored the trajectories and correlates of pain intensity among adolescents with acute pain. Three trajectories of pain intensity were identified, and stable pain was associated with higher anxiety levels. Better sleep quality predicted lower pain intensity and interference. The study suggests the need for future research utilizing intensive longitudinal methodology to guide intervention development and prevent chronic pain transition.

Summary: Chronic pain alters bodily perception and affects the ownership of a body. The study examined whether women with fibromyalgia are receptive to virtual bodily illusions and what factors influence this experience. The findings showed that patients with FM can experience virtual embodiment and their reactions vary depending on affective responses, cognitive body distortions, and symptom intensity. It is important to consider individual differences among patients in future VR-based interventions.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between digital pain extent and psychological factors such as optimism, pessimism, expectations of recovery, pain acceptance, and pain self-efficacy beliefs, as well as the association between digital pain extent and pain intensity and pain-related disability in individuals with chronic musculoskeletal pain. The results showed that digital pain extent was significantly associated with pain intensity, but not with any psychological measure or pain-related disability.
