Summary: In order to produce high-quality biodiesel, it is necessary to fractionate polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). The study aimed to separate linoleic acid from CPO and determine the best conditions for the separation process to produce fatty acids with low iodine numbers. The results showed that the fractionation method at a temperature of 35 degrees C, an extraction time of 4 h, and a ratio of CPO and solvent of 1:3 produced fatty acids with low iodine numbers and high oxidation stability.

Summary: Transesterification catalysts prototypes based on LiAlP/montmorillonite were successfully synthesized from LiAlH4 hydrolysates. The extruded catalysts maintained the basic structure of montmorillonite K10, leading to high conversion rates of palm oil triglycerides to FAMEs. Computational studies revealed the importance of Lewis acid sites and mesoporous structures in the catalytic activity, as well as the electrophilicity behavior of the reactants.

Summary: In recent years, attention has been focused on the use of heterogeneous catalysts, with CaO powder being considered a promising catalyst for biodiesel production. Through investigation of catalyst pellet fabrication parameters, it was found that using an Al2O3 binder resulted in higher catalytic activity compared to kaolin and diatomite supported catalysts. The CaO to Al2O3 mass ratio significantly affected surface area and total basicity, with the CaO-A(800)-3.5:1 catalyst showing the highest biodiesel yield due to the presence of multiple active crystal phases.

Summary: This study optimized the transesterification reaction parameters of palm fatty acids to methyl esters using homogenous sulfuric acid as a catalyst. The optimal results were obtained at a catalyst concentration of 6% (w/w), reaction temperature of 70 degrees C, reaction time of 120 min, and alcohol to oil molar ratio of 30:1, resulting in a yield of 95.35%, viscosity of 5.0 cSt, and density of 880 kg/m(3) for palm biodiesel.

Summary: Seven microalgae species were dried using four different drying methods, and biodiesel was produced from the dried microalgae. The highest vegetable oil yield and biodiesel yield were obtained in Schizochytrium dried by spray technique. The microwave drying method resulted in the lowest cloud point for Botryococcus braunii and the highest pour point and freezing point for Chlorella variabilis. Schizochytrium and Nitzschia were found to be the most suitable microalgae species for biodiesel production. Among the drying methods, spray drying produced the most successful results for biodiesel production from Schizochytrium.

Summary: Solid mixed rare earth catalysts (MREEs) were synthesized by co-precipitation at different pH values. The catalysts co-precipitated at pH 12 showed high contents of active elements for facilitating esterification and transesterification reactions. The catalyst synthesized at pH 12 and calcined at 300 degrees C exhibited high catalytic activity and conversion rates in both esterification and transesterification reactions.

Summary: Biodiesel produced through transesterification is a promising and environmentally friendly fuel derived from biomass resources. However, its production is affected by factors such as feedstock type, reaction time, temperature, and catalyst. Machine learning algorithms, including k-nearest neighbor, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest regression, and AdaBoost regression, have been used to predict biodiesel yield, with Random Forest regression showing the most accurate predictions based on lower RMSE values and higher correlation coefficients.

Summary: The lack of reliable electricity access, especially in rural areas, remains a global issue. This paper proposes a new concept of co-producing biodiesel in rural palm oil mills to create renewable energy access. The study finds that using enzymatic biodiesel for electrification significantly improves climate benefits compared to commercial diesel. Furthermore, a biodiesel co-production facility in a medium-sized palm oil mill can support around 940 surrounding households. This electrification concept is feasible and can be implemented in many developing palm oil producing countries.
