Summary: Protein therapeutics, especially those with PEG decoration, face challenges of short half-life and immunogenicity. The authors developed a poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (POEGMA) conjugate to improve the stability and immunogenicity of PEGylated proteins. The uricase-POEGMA conjugate demonstrated enhanced pharmacokinetics and reduced immunogenicity compared to traditional PEGylated proteins.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy, tolerability, and safety of 1 L-PEG/Asc and 2 L-PEG/Asc in elderly patients undergoing scheduled colonoscopy. The results showed that 1 L-PEG/Asc was as effective, safe, and tolerable as 2 L-PEG/Asc. Therefore, 1 L-PEG/Asc is a viable option for elderly patients with comorbidities.

Summary: Inpatients are more likely to have inadequate bowel preparation compared to outpatients. Recent findings suggest that bowel preparation with castor oil (CaO) can reduce the volume of solution required, making it a suitable alternative to the recommended 4L split polyethylene glycol (PEG) preparation. The study aimed to evaluate the cleansing effect and safety of 2L-PEG with CaO in bowel preparation among inpatients.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and adverse reactions of Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) combined with lactulose with that of PEG alone in bowel preparation before colonoscopy. The results showed that PEG combined with lactulose had better efficacy and fewer adverse reactions compared to PEG alone.

Summary: The study results suggest that the oral sulfate solution protocols are noninferior to polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate for bowel cleansing. The occurrence of adverse reactions was significantly lower in the oral sulfate solution same-day dose group compared to the polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate group, while there was no significant difference in adverse reactions between the oral sulfate solution split-dose group and the polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate group.

Summary: Adequate bowel cleansing is crucial for high-quality colonoscopy, but suboptimal preparation is still common. Guidelines recommend high-volume or low-volume PEG/non-PEG-based split-dose regimens. Additional bowel cleansing can be done the same or next day for patients with insufficient cleansing. A personalized approach to bowel preparation is needed, especially in difficult-to-prepare patients.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of OST and PEG for colonoscopy bowel preparation, showing that the OST group had better BBPS and bubble scores, as well as higher satisfaction, regardless of age. Those under 65 in the OST group had a higher rate of completing the dose within 2 hours compared to the PEG group. Adverse events were not different between the two groups.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness and safety of low-volume PEG-ELS combined with ascorbic acid tablets in bowel preparation for a colonoscopy. The results showed that using 2-L PEG-ELS/Asc was not inferior to using 3-L PEG-ELS in terms of effectiveness and safety. However, the cleansing effect of both preparations was not satisfactory for patients with diabetes and constipation, requiring further research.

Summary: The study developed an immunocontraceptive vaccine for controlling animal reproduction, showing a significant decrease in fertility and reproductive rates in mice. Vaccinated mice had significantly lower levels of reproductive hormones, indicating a suppressive effect on animal fertility through vaccination. Mating results demonstrated a 60% reduction in pregnancy rates and offspring numbers in both male and female vaccinated mice.

Summary: The study found high prevalence and coinfection rate of Equine parvovirus-hepatitis (EqPV-H) and equine hepacivirus (EqHV) in horses, with evidence of natural recombination events between Chinese and Korean strains. Liver-specific parameters were significantly elevated in horses with EqPV-H or EqHV viremia, indicating potential hepatopathological changes. This study provides further evidence of faecal-oral transmission of Theiler's disease and specifies the risk factors of infection for disease prevention strategies.

Summary: In this study, the prevalence of HEV infection in horses in South Korea was investigated. The results showed that approximately 12.4% of horses tested positive for anti-HEV antibodies, with racing horses having a higher risk of infection. However, HEV RNA was not detected in the tested samples.

Summary: This study aims to understand the attitudes, stigma, and discrimination of the general adult population toward drug addiction. A nationwide survey was conducted with 1,020 Korean adults, and the results showed that the majority of participants had negative perceptions of drug addiction and agreed to unfair treatment of drug addicts. Factors such as gender, age, personal experience of opioid misuse, smoking status, and income were found to be associated with stigma and discriminatory attitudes. The findings highlight the importance of education on drug addiction prevention and reducing stigma and discrimination toward drug addicts.

Summary: This study examined the quality of life (QOL) of pediatric epilepsy patients treated with cannabidiol (CBD), and found that CBD did not improve their QOL. Although CBD showed efficacy in reducing seizures, the lack of improvement in QOL may be attributed to the severe intellectual disabilities present in all patients.

Summary: The study described the prevalence of EqPV-CSF and EqCoPV in serum and fecal samples, identifying age, country of foaling, and clinical signs as significantly associated with infection. The newly identified genomes showed high similarity with US strains and formed a new subgroup in the genus Copiparvovirus. This is the first field epidemiologic study on EqPV-CSF and EqCoPV, highlighting risk factors for infection and aiding in the development of disease prevention strategies.
