Summary: This community-based, case-control study found a close association between serrated polyps (SPs) and the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC), especially large proximal serrated lesions or those with dysplasia. Close endoscopic surveillance of serrated polyps can help reduce the risk of CRC. Proximal unspecified SPs are also associated with an increased risk of CRC and should be managed as serrated lesions.

Summary: The prevalence of high-risk serrated polyps decreased by one-third at the first follow-up colonoscopy, but the proportion of serrated polyps with high-risk features remained the same. Females were more likely to have high-risk serrated polyps at the index colonoscopy, while those at greatest risk for high-risk serrated polyps at follow-up colonoscopy were aged over 75 years and had an index high-risk serrated polyp.

Summary: The study found no association between gallstone disease and colorectal polyps. Patients with gallstones have a similar risk of colorectal polyps compared to those without, and may therefore follow average-risk colorectal cancer screening guidelines.

Summary: The study indicates that erythrocyte PUFAs in a typical American diet are unlikely to have a substantial influence on the risk of colorectal cancer precursors. However, certain PUFAs may be associated with different types of colorectal polyp risks. Further confirmation is needed for subgroup associations.

Summary: The aim of this study was to develop an AI-based system for detecting and classifying polyps using colonoscopy images. A large dataset of colonoscopy images from colorectal cancer patients was collected and processed. CNN and EfficientNet-b0 models were used for polyp detection and classification, respectively. The model achieved high performance with sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values exceeding state-of-the-art results. The system has potential to assist physicians and endoscopists in making efficient and reliable decisions.

Summary: This study compared the noninvasive screening detection of high-risk sessile serrated lesions (SSLs) between the multitarget stool DNA (mt-sDNA) test and CT colonography (CTC). It found that CTC at 6mm and 10mm thresholds had significantly higher yield and positive predictive value (PPV) for high-risk SSLs compared with mt-sDNA.

Summary: This study found no significant difference in the risk of metachronous colorectal neoplasia between serrated polyps and conventional adenomas, supporting current surveillance guidelines. Patients with both serrated polyps and high-risk adenomas may have an increased risk, warranting further investigation.

Summary: The presence of small serrated polyps (SPs) concomitantly with small tubular adenomas (TAs) increases the risk of subsequent neoplasia compared to isolated TAs. This increase in risk is also observed when small TAs are found in conjunction with small proximal hyperplastic polyps (HPs). The presence of concomitant small SPs should be taken into consideration when determining surveillance intervals during colonoscopy screening programs.

Summary: High-definition (HD) endoscopy is recommended for detecting dysplasia in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Dye-spray chromoendoscopy (DCE) and narrow-band imaging (NBI) are common adjunctive techniques. This study evaluated the incremental detection ability of DCE and NBI added to HD-WLE in patients with long-standing extensive UC. HD-DCE improved the detection of SSAs/Ps, but not dysplasia.

Summary: This Dutch registry study identified risk factors for rebubbling and early graft failure in DMEK. Rebubbling was associated with higher graft failure, while older recipient age and surgical complications were risk factors for rebubbling. Early graft failure risk factors included transplantation before 2016 and surgical complications. Rebubbling was also associated with significantly lower endothelial cell densities.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the placebo response in pharmacological trials for functional dyspepsia (FD). The study found that the pooled placebo response rate ranged from 35.5% to 39.6% depending on the responder definition used. Lower baseline symptom scores were significantly associated with higher placebo response rates. The study suggests considering entry criteria based on symptom severity and separate reporting of core FD symptoms in future trials.

Summary: This systematic review found that adipose tissue (AT) distribution plays a significant role in the development and prognosis of endometrial cancer (EC), correlating with obesity measures, histological subtypes, lymph node metastasis, and sex steroid levels. Further well-designed prospective studies are needed to explore these differences more specifically and understand how it can contribute to the prediction and therapy of EC.

Summary: Computer-aided diagnosis systems (CADx) can improve colorectal polyp (CRP) optical diagnosis. An explainable AI CADx was developed to automatically generate textual descriptions of CRPs, and its performance was analyzed using BLI images of 55 CRPs. The CADx showed high performance for surface descriptors, while the description of size and pits-distribution need improvement. Explainable AI can enhance the understanding and trust in CADx.

Summary: This study examined whether participant characteristics moderated the effects of two cognitive behavioral interventions on concerns about falling in older community-dwelling individuals. Secondary analyses of two RCTs were conducted, involving the group intervention A Matter of Balance - Netherlands (AMB-NL) (n = 540) and individual AMB - Home (n = 389) intervention. Marginal models were used for moderation assessment, including single and multiple moderator models. A total of 19 characteristics were assessed. Moderating effects were found for living situation, fall history, symptoms of depression, perceived general health, ADL disability, cognitive status, and consequences of falling-loss of independence subscale. Effects varied by intervention, time point, and type of model.
