Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological characteristics of 171 papillary thyroid cancer patients and found that age of onset ≥55 years was an independent risk factor for postoperative recurrence. Preoperative voice analysis can predict recurrent laryngeal nerve function. PTC patients with RLN invasion can achieve good outcomes.

Summary: The study evaluated the clinical outcomes and risk factors for recurrence in post-thyroidectomy T4a PTC patients with recurrent laryngeal nerve involvement. Results showed that recurrence rate was not associated with surgical extent, organ invasion, tumor size, and lymph node infiltration, but was correlated with positive resection margins.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the oncological outcomes of patients who underwent shaving of a tumor from the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) with gross residual disease for vocal function preservation in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). In a retrospective cohort study, it was found that 10.6% of patients with a large residual tumor after shaving the RLN experienced recurrence, but there were no deaths or distant metastases. Based on the results, shaving residual tumors may be considered an alternative strategy for preserving vocal function.

Summary: This study identified TERT promoter mutations in PTC and found that they are associated with more aggressive behavior. Patients with TERT promoter mutations were older, had larger tumors, and exhibited other adverse clinical features, resulting in a poorer prognosis compared to those with wild-type TERT gene status.

Summary: Integrins, as cell-extracellular matrix adhesion molecules, play a key role in cancer metastasis. In papillary thyroid carcinoma patients, integrin expression is associated with histopathology, driver gene mutations, and disease aggressiveness, with ITGA3 subunit showing the highest correlation with disease progression.

Summary: This study aimed to predict the BRAF(V600E) mutation in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) using machine learning algorithms based on ultrasound elastography radiomic features. Among the six algorithms compared, support vector machine with radial basis function (SVM_RBF) showed the best diagnostic performance with high accuracy, AUC, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value.

Summary: This study integrated transcriptomic sequencing, genomic analysis, and clinicopathologic information to discover and validate four molecular subtypes of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The different subtypes showed distinct immune infiltration, genetic alterations, and clinical characteristics. The study also revealed the molecular link between benign thyroid nodules and PTC subtypes and generated a gene expression signature for differential diagnosis. The findings provide opportunities for personalized treatment plans based on molecular subtyping.

Summary: By analyzing tissue samples from 146 patients with papillary thyroid cancer, we found that the BRAF V600E mutation and CPSF2 protein expression are associated with recurrence and disease-free survival. Patients with low CPSF2 protein expression and the BRAF V600E mutation were at higher risk for recurrence, while patients with high CPSF2 protein expression had longer disease-free survival. These findings provide important prognostic factors for papillary thyroid cancer.

Summary: Based on electronic health records in Hong Kong, the risk of Bell's palsy increased following BNT162b2 vaccination, particularly within 14 days after the second dose. However, the absolute risk remains very low, so the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination still outweigh the small risk of Bell's palsy.

Summary: Introduction and Objectives: Operations are a major cause of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i)-associated diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). This study aimed to investigate the risks of SGLT2i-associated postoperative DKA. Methods: A population-based cohort of patients with type 2 diabetes who underwent operations during 2015-2020 was analyzed. Results: Preoperative SGLT2i use was associated with increased risks of postoperative DKA in patients with type 2 diabetes. Conclusion: Clinicians could optimize patients' outcomes by appropriate prescription of SGLT2i, while watching out for high-risk features. Implementing automatic electronic health record pop-up alerts may reduce the risk of SGLT2i-associated postoperative DKA.

Summary: We administered a third dose of BNT162b2 to 314 adults aged >= 30 years who had previously received 2 doses of inactivated vaccine. Blood samples were collected before the third dose, after 1 month, and after 6 months. The study found robust antibody responses to the ancestral strain at 6 months after receiving BNT162b2, but weaker and declining antibody responses to Omicron BA.2 after the third dose.

Summary: This is a retrospective cohort study investigating the risk factors for persistent opioid use after surgical discharge and the association between opioid prescription at discharge and postoperative emergency department visits, readmission, and mortality. The study found that prescribing opioids on discharge was associated with an increased risk of persistent opioid use, 30-day emergency department visits, 30-day readmission, and 30-day all-cause mortality. Therefore, minimizing opioid prescriptions at discharge could improve perioperative patient outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the user experience differences of elderly women participating in remote sports exercise programs using tablet and augmented reality (AR) glasses. The results showed no significant differences in attractiveness, stimulation, and novelty between the two groups, but there were significant differences in efficiency, perspicuity, and dependability. Therefore, when developing AR glasses-based exercise programs for the elderly, the efficiency, clarity, and stability of the program should be considered to meet participants' needs.

The operation time and surgical completeness were similar to robotic thyroidectomy in adults, and most complications were minor and transient. Therefore, robotic thyroidectomy can be considered as a surgical option regardless of patient age or diagnosis.

Summary: Hong Kong implemented a strict COVID-19 elimination strategy in 2020. This study estimated the impact of pandemic responses on hospitalizations and deaths. The findings showed a reduction in hospitalizations and an increase in deaths, potentially due to changes in healthcare seeking behavior and the vulnerability of certain population groups. Better healthcare planning is necessary during public health emergencies.
