The direct photolysis of 18 individual polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) substituted with 1-7 bromine atoms was investigated in hexane and methanol under UV irradiation. Based on the determined photolysis rate constants (k(p)) and calculated quantum yields (phi), four quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) models were developed by partial least squares (PLS) method and 20 fundamental molecular structural descriptors. The fitting results showed that all of four QSPR models had good predictability and correlations between observed and predicted photolysis data were significant. The predominant molecular descriptors governing photolysis rate constants of PBDEs in hexane were M-w, S-m, q(Br), and q(Br+), while in methanol the significant variables were alpha, TE, M-w and S-m. In terms of the QSPR models for quantum yields of PBDEs in hexane and methanol, the governing molecular descriptors were almost the same. Molecular weight (M-w) and three atomic charge descriptors (q(Br+), q(H+), q(Br)) were all presented in the four QSPR models, implying that photolysis rate constants and quantum yields were affected by the bromination degree and substitution pattern of PBDE molecules. Emerging Organic Contaminants in Chinese Surface Water: Identification of Priority Pollutants

Mengmeng Zhong, Tielong Wang, Wenxing Zhao, Jun Huang, Bin Wang, Lee Blaney, Qingwei Bu, Gang Yu

Summary: The occurrence and impacts of emerging organic contaminants in Chinese surface water have been studied using a multi-criteria screening approach. The study developed a prioritization scheme based on hazard and exposure potentials to identify the top-priority and high-priority pollutants. The priority index effectively captured and integrated the results from other prioritization schemes based on exposure potential, hazard potential, or risk quotients.

Role of in-situ electro-generated H2O2•••bridge in tetracycline degradation governed by mechanochemical Si-O anchoring Cu2+ as electron shuttle during E-peroxone process

Shangyi Li, Jun Huang, Yujue Wang, Gang Yu

Summary: The efficient mineralization and reaction mechanism of tetracycline (TC) were investigated using a heterogeneous H2O2⋯ bridge linked with active sites. The results showed that the catalysts enhanced electron transfer and reactive oxygen species (ROSs) generation, leading to complete degradation and excellent mineralization of TC. The interaction between Cu sites and in-situ electro-generated H2O2 promoted ROSs production through the bonding bridge, providing new insights into efficient ROSs production during the process.

Self-assembled graphitic carbon nitride regulated by carbon quantum dots with optimized electronic band structure for enhanced photocatalytic degradation of diclofenac

Qinglun You, Qianxin Zhang, Mengbin Gu, Roujia Du, Ping Chen, Jun Huang, Yujue Wang, Shubo Deng, Gang Yu

Summary: In this study, a novel visible-light-driven photocatalyst (PCN@(m)CQDs-2) was successfully synthesized, which exhibited significantly improved degradation rate towards diclofenac (DCF) through regulating the supramolecular self-assembly process, microstructure, and band energy levels. Experimental results indicated that photogenerated holes played a dominant role in DCF degradation, while the contribution of hydroxyl radicals was negligible. Moreover, PCN@(m)CQDs-2 showed high toxicity reduction properties, mineralization ability, and reusability.

Regularized Matrix Factorization for Multilabel Learning With Missing Labels

Lei Feng, Jun Huang, Senlin Shu, Bo An

Summary: This article addresses the issue of multilabel learning with missing labels and proposes a method to recover the ground-truth label matrix and construct a multilabel classification model through regularized matrix factorization. By leveraging label correlations and local topological structure, the recovered label matrix and classification model are more accurate and effective. Experimental results show significant improvements over existing algorithms when handling both full-label and missing-label data.

Mianjun Hu, Xiwen Qu, Jun Huang, Xuangou Wu

Summary: In this paper, we propose an end-to-end classifier based on CNN for online handwritten-Chinese-character recognition. Our model directly takes the original coordinate sequence of a character as input and uses global average pooling to obtain a fixed-size feature vector for classification. Experimental results show that our method achieves higher recognition accuracy without the need for data augmentation or ensemble of multiple models.
