Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations between short-term exposure to sulfur dioxide (SO2) and particulate matter (PM10) and the number of hospital admissions for hypertensive cardiovascular diseases (HCD). The results showed a significant increase in the risk of HCD-induced hospital admission with short-term exposure to SO2 and PM10.

Summary: This study found that exposure to high mean temperature and low diurnal temperature range and relative humidity may increase the risk of hospital admissions for uveitis, especially for first admission. Males and the young appear to be more sensitive to high temperature, while females are more vulnerable to low diurnal temperature range. Interestingly, both the young and the elderly are susceptible to low diurnal temperature range and relative humidity exposure.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of air pollution on daily respiratory hospital admissions in 58 spatial locations of Portugal mainland from 2005 to 2017, finding temperature to be the most determinant covariate and the importance of historical data in predicting hospitalization. Despite the small variability explained by air quality, models typically include two air pollutants covariates alongside temperature on average.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review to assess the quality of risk prediction models for hospital length of stay (LOS) in general medicine and all admissions groups. It found that both machine learning and statistical modeling had good predictive performance, but there was limited external validation and poor overall study quality. Moving forward, there is a need to focus on quality methods, adopt existing guidelines, and conduct external validation before clinical application.

Summary: Under the background of global warming, heat exposure has a huge impact on human health. This study analyzed the data from Wuhan, China and found a significant positive association between daily mean temperature and hospital admissions for obstructive nephropathy (ON). The negative effects of high temperature were more pronounced in middle-aged and elderly patients.

Summary: A model's expected generalization error is inversely proportional to its training set size, and artificially expanding the training set size can increase prediction accuracy. This study proposes using autoencoders, variational autoencoders, and Wasserstein generative adversarial networks for time series augmentation, which significantly improves regression accuracies.

Summary: According to a study in Spain, the number of hospitalizations for pediatric anaphylaxis remained stable from 2016 to 2019, decreased in 2020, and recovered in 2021. Boys were more likely to be hospitalized, and food consumption was the most common trigger. In-hospital mortality rate was low and stable. The incidence of hospitalizations for anaphylaxis was higher in children with asthma compared to those without asthma, but there was no difference in the occurrence of severe anaphylaxis between them.

Summary: This study investigated the operative timing for burn patients with amphetamine positivity in two burn centers with different practices. The findings suggest that waiting for a negative toxicology result for amphetamines does not affect intraoperative management or burn outcomes. Serial toxicology tests are unnecessary for determining operative timing in burn patients with amphetamine use.

Summary: The endocannabinoid system is a complex neuronal system involved in various biological functions, and its understanding has been driven by the potential therapeutic benefits of cannabinoid ligands. This review provides an overview of the neuropharmacology of cannabinoid receptor ligands, including endocannabinoids, herbal cannabis, and synthetic cannabinoids, focusing on their modulatory actions through other neurotransmitter systems. The effects of cannabinoid ligands on neurotransmitter systems such as dopamine, serotonin, glutamate, noradrenaline, opioid, and GABA are discussed, as well as their therapeutic potential and adverse effects.

Summary: This systematic review examines the potential cognitive impairments associated with clinical and recreational use of GHB. The results suggest that clinical GHB use does not appear to cause cognitive impairments, but moderate use of GHB may result in short-term cognitive impairments, while regular high-dose use and/or multiple GHB-induced comas may lead to long-term residual cognitive impairments.

Summary: The recreational use of nitrous oxide (N2O) has been increasing and has resulted in more cases of intoxication. Heavy, frequent, and chronic use of N2O carries significant health risks, including the inactivation of cobalamin and the development of various neurological disorders. The addictive properties of N2O and its underlying mechanism of action remain controversial.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether patterns of AAS use and other variables are associated with the presence of AASUD. The results showed that the probability of moderate-severe AASUD increases with the duration and average dose of AAS use. This indicates that moderate-severe AASUD is relatively frequent among male AAS consumers and is positively associated with the duration and dose of AAS use in the last 12 months.

Summary: This preliminary study aimed to investigate the influence of prematurity and variables associated with birth on cortisol levels in young children. The results showed that C-section delivery in premature born children was associated with lower cortisol levels. This finding is clinically relevant and may have important implications for the development of premature infants.

Summary: This study investigates the experiences of parents with regular care and compares them with parents visiting a fixed, specialised, multidisciplinary institute for preterm follow-up care. The findings suggest that parents receiving multidisciplinary care report higher levels of satisfaction with the organization of care and supportive care compared to parents receiving regular care. Additionally, it was found that the extent of support from the social environment alleviates stress only in parents receiving regular care.
