Summary: Based on previous comparative studies, this research further investigates the antitumor activities and mechanisms of a pair of ruthenium(ii) complex enantiomers. The results demonstrate that both enantiomers exhibit selective antiproliferative effects on cancer cell lines. They effectively permeate the nucleus and co-localize with DNA, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis. The research implies that the antitumor activity, mechanism, and efficiency of these metal complexes are related to their DNA binding.

Summary: In this study, a mono-nuclear Ni(II) complex and a di-nuclear Cu(II) complex were synthesized and characterized. Both complexes showed affinity for binding with DNA and HSA. The binding mode with DNA was found to be intercalative for complex 1 and groove binding for complex 2. The MTT assay revealed that complex 2 exhibited superior anticancer properties with low toxicity to normal cells. Furthermore, a nuclear staining study confirmed an apoptotic cell-killing pathway for the complexes.

Summary: This review discusses the development of ruthenium complexes with acylthiourea ligands for potential antitumor activity. It highlights the increased biological activity of the coordination products compared to their precursor complexes and free ligands. The structure-activity relationships of different structure scaffolds of ruthenium complexes with N-mono- and disubstituted acylthiourea ligands are discussed in relation to their cytotoxic properties and antitumor activity. The mode of binding of Ru-acylthiourea complexes to DNA is also explored to understand their cytotoxic action.

Summary: The presence of desmoplasia in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is associated with poor treatment outcomes and reduced drug delivery. By analyzing collagen subtypes in PDAC tumors following different treatment regimens, immunofluorescence profiling can predict long-term survival and tumor growth inhibition. This information can aid in personalized treatment and improve patient survival.

Summary: Thin film coatings with potent antibacterial properties are widely used in medical devices, frequently touched surfaces, and food packaging. However, achieving antibacterial performance under both light and dark conditions remains a challenge. In this study, we successfully prepared AgBr-coated ZnO nanorod thin film architecture using a unique surfactant-mediated solution-phase spin-coating approach. The resulting structures showed dual functionality as antimicrobial agents and photosensitizers, effectively enhancing the visible-light photodisinfection efficacy of ZnO nanorods. The concentration of the surfactant-based precursor solution could be modulated to control the AgBr content. Additionally, components like urea and lactic acid were found to enhance the photocatalytic efficiency of the structures.
